What Guests Are Saying

White Star Campground is highly praised for its cleanliness, friendly camp hosts, and beautiful, well-maintained sites. Visitors enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, proximity to hiking trails, and stunning views, with many expressing a desire to return. While some noted noise from nearby roads and an increase in dog presence, these were minor concerns compared to the overall positive experience.

We absolutely loved our stay at White Star. The campground was lovely. And, it was close to hiking trails, the lake and the town of Twin Lakes. While we were there, there was a convenient shuttle bus running to Leadville too. The most remarkable thing was that I accidentally left my ebike battery on the bumper of my van when I left and it fell off on the road. I realized the next day and was able to contact rec.gov and they contacted the camp host. Someone had turned in my battery and I was able to retrieve it!!! A $400 accident! I’m so grateful to White Star!💖💖💖🙏🏼

Extremely busy on the weekends. My hopes for a little peace and quiet were lost as there were a bazillion screaming children near my campsite. Host did not enforce quiet hours on Saturday night. Thankfully, I could climb the short hill adjacent to my site and park my chair and take in the beautiful view. At least that gave me a little more distance from all the noise. I still don’t understand why people don’t realize their voices carry outside. You don’t have to yell at the top of your lungs when conversing with your campmates.

Wonderful camp site, definitely want to come back here. Easy access to the lake (could walk from our site #10). Incredible views.

Clean, quiet, awesome. Stayed here on my way further west. Water supply is not located where recreation.gov map indicates, needs updated.

There is no dump station. We had to spend 2 hrs extra going to the nearest city for this.

Last minute I needed to change to a pull through site. Two were available and the camp hosts were able to accomodate even though we arrived at 9pm. Hosts were very friendly as well.

Gorgeous campsites located in the Twin Lakes area along Independence past. Clean privy toilets, potable water spigots fairly conveniently located, and within walking distance of nice trails as well as the lakes.

We made this reservation six months in advance as you have to do. Shortly before our arrival a wildfire started somewhat nearby (close to Turquoise Lake/Leadville). We were safe to go, but the smoke from that fire was in the air. This stopped a vast majority of people from coming, so the campground was eerily quiet. Our site had a proper tent pad, but I noticed as I walked around others did not. The hosts were attentive and cleaned the bathrooms regularly. We could drive a short distance to the lakes to paddleboard, and there was a kayak/canoe/SUP rental business right at the smaller lake (Upper Twin Lake) which is where we did our water activities. Make sure you have your pass on your car as you will get a ticket if you don't have it displayed. It seemed there was a SUP and bike rental business at the Lower Twin Lake although we didn't check it out. There is an easy hike around the Lower Lake and other hikes in the area. I imagine when this campground is full it could be rather busy and loud, but due to the fire it was very calm when we were there.
