Zapata Falls Campground offers stunning views of the San Luis Valley and nearby Great Sand Dunes National Park, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. The campground is well-maintained, featuring clean bathrooms, spacious sites, and easy access to scenic hiking trails, including a short hike to the falls. Visited in mid December. Campground was empty except for one other camper. Vault toilets were clean. Amazing view of the valley from site 13. The short hike to Zapata Falls is definitely worth it.

We were there 8/9/25 for an overnight, on our way back to Denver from Chaco Canyon. Even though it was snowy (road) and cold, the stars and view were worth the nightly trips to the pit toilet (which were very clean)! The sites seem very well situated to provide views as well as a modicum of privacy. We've made a note to return and camp at Zapata Falls and explore the area at a later date. Absolutely beautiful views day and night.

Love Zapata Falls, especially in the off season when it’s nearly empty. It’s easy to get to, clean, and well maintained. This was my third visit and I’ll definitely go back. My only disappointment is in not seeing an UFOs hovering over the valley.

Had a great time! The road up to Zapata Falls and the campground is very steep but it’s all paved. The campsite was virtually empty in November but we still had a great time and there was a beautiful sunset we got to watch over the San Luis Valley. Campsite #3 has the best overlook/view in my opinion. The restrooms were clean and the well maintained, and there was a large tank of water for extinguishing fires which is awesome for fire safety! We had a great time and would love to camp here again!

Gorgeous sunset and sunrise, stunning stars at night. We went early November still needed to reserve, it’s popular! The spots are clean and well maintained. It was super easy to walk to the falls from the campsite.

Only ones in the campground the first of two nights. Maybe 7-8 sites full the second night. 10/30/24. Very quiet. Clean. Clean rest rooms. Beautiful views. Would recommend. Will return.

Very nice view from the campground. Enough space that you're not right next to the neighboring sites. Nice and close to the sand dunes. Couldn't find the water fall though

The road up to the campground is paved, road within the campground is not. Pit latrines were clean as were the campsites. We were at site 21 and enjoyed incredible views over the San Luis Valley. It was a nice walk to the Zapata Falls Trailhead with fabulous views of Great Sand Dunes. We were in the campground on weeknights in late October and there were only2 other campsites with campers. So peaceful and quiet, beautiful night skies. We hope to come back sometime!

Great site, easy to book, BUT Booking Fee more expensive than my 1-night stay... Need to get a better contractor, as $8 booking fees are exorbitant

#7 was a good spot, slight angle for the table and campfire but it was manageable. Overall the campground was great.
