The bathrooms were spotless and the camp hosts were super friendly. It was quiet and serene. One of our favorite camping destinations.

As always I enjoyed my time at Dowdy Lake. The walk around the lake is a great way to enjoy the area. The trail is mostly flat with roots and partial trail washed away so be aware.. The smoke from distant fires made it difficult to breath at time.

Always the perfect spot to go to to be by a lake. Although the water level was a little low, you can still easily access the lake and fish. Lots of bird activity too in late July!

Our experience could be great if not tons of black flies in the restrooms. It completely ruined experience for our kid, I would not say it was pleasant for adults. We saw other kids who took one look inside and ran right back out looking for adults help. I don't know why the fly traps were not set. Last year everything was perfect.

Campground has Great Lake access and is very spread out along the south shore

Great camp hosts, clean restrooms and campsites. Lake is low, but still perfect for kayaks etc.

While we were disappointed that the water was so low, the lowest we've ever seen in several years of coming to Dowdy, we still had a great camping experience. The fishing wasn't great, only catching 3 trout over 4 days of hear constant fly- and spinner-fishing, and most of the crayfish were gone from our usual haunts. The facilities were clean, the night sky was gorgeous, and the silly set of cow/calf pairs walking through the site gave us a giggle.

What a beautiful area and we had such a great time kayaking on the water. The water was down quite a bit, but it is what it is.
Unfortunately, our experience was completely ruined by the camp next to us, who smoked cigarettes about every 15 minutes right next to my family. I alerted the Camp Host, who spoke to them briefly, but they started right back up as soon as the host walked away. Ultimately, I had to step in and tell the guy to stop—not only because there is a fire ban, but because it is absolutely disgusting to smell cigarette smoke while trying to enjoy a family camping trip in the woods. I mean, cant you at least vape for this trip? It would at least smell better
What was supposed to be a great getaway turned into an ash-tray fest that the Camp Host completely failed to control.
I would love to go back to this beautiful area, but hopefully management can actually enforce existing rules in the future instead of letting people run wild.

This is a beautiful campground. The facilities are well maintained and the sites spacious, at least in the loop we stayed in.

Getting There
From Fort Collins, take Highway 287 north for approximately 24 mi to Livermore. Turn west on County Road 74 and continue about 23 mi to Dowdy Lake Road. Turn right, then another right onto Dowdy Drive and continue to the campground.
Highway access
Dowdy Lake is accessed via Highway 287, which is approximately 24 miles from Fort Collins. From Highway 287, the route continues on County Road 74 for about 23 miles before reaching Dowdy Lake Road.
