What Guests Are Saying

Stove Prairie offers a beautiful camping experience with great river access, clean sites, and friendly hosts, making it an ideal spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Many guests appreciated the serene location away from cell service, allowing for a peaceful getaway. However, some noted issues with the camp host's demeanor and the presence of non-paying day visitors, which detracted from their overall experience.

Made better travel time to mountains than expected. Arrived a little after 12 PM. Campground empty except 2 out of 9 sites occupied. Our sites were empty and looked available. Camp host showed up and started harassing my sound about being in spot before 2 PM. Telling son that he could make him leave. Very unprofessional in approach. Since just arrived, I took dog for quick walk. During absence he wen to 2nd site and approached our female dentist friend and wife. Telling them same of he could make them leave and come back in 2 hours. Makes absolutely no sense. Baffling how much of a power trip this guy is on. Camp host then informed female dentist friend that she had to pay $8 for her vehicle (we had 2 included in reservation). She stated that she did not know about it (was our guest for the weekend). Camp host insulting stating that if she "could just read" she she would see she needs to pay $8. Our dentist friend pointed out that she may have more education than him and that implying she could not read is an insult an unprofessional. His main focus remained trying to get the $8 in untraceable cash. Paying by card not an option. Observation is did the same for other sites. not sure how much was reported? He never cleaned restrooms. Dried feces on stool and seat entire weekend. Campers stated it was also that way when they arrived. Restocked paper once per day with 4 rolls TP for 9 campsites. Discovered large rattle snake on trail right after kids and camphost just walked it. Lucky neither were bit. In past one width mowed allow visibility. Not this guy. No work other than trash patrol. No rattlesnake warning sign on bulletin board. Our guest left early next morning, due to not having $8 cash for another. host ruined whole weekend. Camping this for over 30 years. those hosts friendly, did custodial, left folks alone to enjoy & relax. Not him.

We loved listening to the river, the river makes a big arc here and there is a nice beach with sand and small stones that the kids enjoyed, bathrooms were nice, and the trails had small gravel on them which kept the mud factor down. However, the campsites are close together without a buffer between. It was much nicer during the week as we pretty much had it to ourselves.

Loved this little campground and our site. Close proximity to Mishawaka. Even though we were in the Canyon, the highway was out of site and it was nice and quiet. Highly recommend!

The only problem here is that there is absolutely no cell service. you have to drive 15 - 20 miles to get service. There's a little highway noise but mostly it's covered up by the sound of the river.
