Camp host was super kind and friendly. Made sure we knew no wood burning fires were allowed (fire pit was tied off as an extra precaution) and how to properly use the provided bear box. Bathrooms were clean. Sites were so close together that we could hear full conversations. Our tent site was slanted and rocky which was tricky. Most other campgrounds we've been to have level tent pads. Georgeous area and nice to be close to Mt. Blue Sky. Just a few unfortunate things that make us unlikely to return.

What great memories made. 2nd time at this campground. James the camp host is an amazing guy and keeps the grounds clean and peaceful!

The center loop site are very close to neighbors but we had a great time! Walk down the hill to play in the creek (good for kids). Lots of shade at the site and big enough for two large tents.

A small campground that is quiet and so peaceful! The road to get to it is dirt but well maintained (does have a few switchback turns so be mindful if you have a long camper). The host was incredibly friendly and helpful!
Our only “ick” was the smell of the bathrooms when the wind was blowing towards us. Nothing can be done about it-it’s just the way it is but just something we noticed a few times.
Highly recommend a stay here!

Beautiful little, quiet campground sitting in an aspen grove. You can hear the creek at your campsite. I saw moose and lots of hummingbirds. The campground host is a nice guy, helpful and friendly.

We always enjoy West Chicago Creek campground. It is always clean and very peaceful. Restroom are clean. Our campsite was close to the creek. We arrange our trip in the middle of the week so the campground is usually very quiet. It is our go to place when we just want to get away from the city for some peace and quiet

This is a great place for a quick getaway from the City. Just about an hour away but feels fully disconnected at the campground, the sounds of the creek are a great bonus for relaxing .Not many sites and probably small for longer trailers and RV’s. Idaho Springs is really close as well as some hiking right out of the campground. 2nd time here and we will be back.

Playing in the creek during the day and a fire a night, this campground has excellent access to the creek especially if you are willing to walk up it. Bathrooms at the trailhead are a nice option when the campground bathroom gets popular. The trail, Hells Hole Trail, is approximately 9.2 miles round-trip. Seen a moose there at the trails end on 6/23. The host, James, is extremely helpful.

I-70 westbound, Idaho Springs exit #240 - Hwy 103. Go south for 6.5 miles and turn right on southwest Forest Service Road 188 (West Chicago Creek Road). Go 3 miles to campground. The last mile of dirt/gravel road is one lane with pull over's and contains two sharp switchbacks.
West Chicago Creek is accessible via US Highway 6, approximately 10 miles to the north, and Interstate 70, roughly 15 miles to the west.

Utilities
- Guests must bring their own water as the well is not functioning and RV connections are unavailable.
Site capacity
- There are limited sites available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Guests must remain on their reserved site; site swapping is not permitted.
- Tents must be placed on designated pads; RVs and trailers must use the parking spur, with no off-road parking allowed.
Wildlife & food storage
- Keep your campsite clean and do not store food in your tent to ensure safety from bears.

- This is a busy place and site swapping is not allowed.

- Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) are not permitted in the campground as there are no trails available.
Fires & fuel
- To protect the environment, do not move firewood; buy it locally and burn it on-site.
- Campfires and charcoal fires may be prohibited during hot, dry weather due to fire restrictions.
Fees & deposits
- An extra vehicle fee of $8.00 per night applies for additional vehicles beyond the first included vehicle.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation modifications must be done through Recreation.gov before your arrival; changes cannot be made after check-in.
