What Guests Are Saying
West Chicago Creek campground is a quiet and well-maintained site with clean bathrooms, friendly hosts, and beautiful surroundings, including easy access to hiking trails and a lovely creek. While there is no water on-site, it is conveniently located near Idaho Springs for supplies. Some sites are closer together and may require careful arrangement, but overall, visitors enjoy the peaceful experience and scenic atmosphere.

Camp host was friendly. Sites were well maintained. Beautiful location and proximity to hells portal trailhead was perfect! (And the trail was beautiful!)

Cute little campground. Some sites offer much more room than others, #1 had a lot of space for tents, although the fire pit, table and bear box are pretty squished together. Bring plenty of of water, no water on site.

Overall a decent experience, rating 4 stars more because of the activities in the area. Note, my fiancé and I had a busy prior weekend and plans to travel out of state the following weekend, so we decided to only stay 1 of 2 nights heading home Saturday evening.
We had site 13 which was very underwhelming as we pulled up. Very little tree coverage compared to the other sites. It was also right alongside the road that led to a public parking area. Only 1 car and some dirt bikers drove by around 7AM, but it was early in the season, I’d imagine it has more traffic middle of summer. Sites 11 and 12 are basically right on top of each-other with 13 being a little over from them. Fortunately for us, neither 11 or 12 were occupied, so we didn’t have to worry about it feeling overcrowded. If we stayed again, we would get a site further away from the road, on the south section of the campground closest to the creek.
Very scenic drive with a secluded feeling. West Chicago creek flows in the distance adding a little peaceful noise. Definitely not my favorite campground but I’d recommend it if you want a reason to hang out in Idaho Springs or hit some fishing spots such as Echo Lake.

Quiet spot with easy commute from Denver. Peaceful with the creek running. Hiking trails adjacent to the campground. I’ll definitely come back.
