What Guests Are Saying
West Chicago Creek campground is a quiet and well-maintained site with clean bathrooms, friendly hosts, and beautiful surroundings, including easy access to hiking trails and a lovely creek. While there is no water on-site, it is conveniently located near Idaho Springs for supplies. Some sites are closer together and may require careful arrangement, but overall, visitors enjoy the peaceful experience and scenic atmosphere.

Beautiful, quiet campground at the edge of Mt Evans Wilderness. Even saw a moose! Although the sites are a bit close together everything was clean and well maintained. Special appreciation to campground host Roger Harris who was very friendly, eager to be helpful and even provided us with maps when we inquired about the area. Noticed him greeting many campers during our stay. Great example of a terrific Host.

Sites are very close together. Not much privacy. Ground is not level enough for tents.

Beautiful site. High elevation; cold at night! Trailhead next door convenient for great hiking. Dirt road is in excellent condition. No potable water, but plentiful streams if you have a filter. Convenient to all trails in the Mt Evans wilderness.

Overall great location. Was quiet, choose to creek also but only drawbacks, no obvious or easily accessible fishing and there seemed to be a ton of bees. Basically a ton like in mosquitos type numbers.

This is a tough one to review, as the weather was far from pleasant. It started raining when we got there and broke long enough to fix dinner. Two hours later it started raining and didn’t stop most of the night. We made a quick breakfast and it started raining again so we went for a drive. Forecast was for non-stop rain and we ended up being the only ones who were still at the campground when we returned. The road conditions made me very nervous so we decided to pack up and head home. I was also disappointed that there was no camp host, even though it was noted that there was. She was the only one with emergency phone service. I would be willing to try it again as we didn’t get a chance to do any hiking or fishing, and we wanted to see the nearby lake. The sites were nice, particularly the ones that backed to the creek. There was good tree coverage, but that doesn’t work as well when are also relying on solar. Will give it a try in 2023.
