West Lake

The site had a little bit of a dip but we made it work. This is one of our favorite places to camp! Had baby owls to watch this time!

Great host and wonderful campsite.

This is our 2nd time camping in a tent at Westlake. We usually stay at Dowdy Lake of which we also love but it is super crowded there. Westlake is smaller and quieter. From Westlake, you can take the trail over to Dowdy Lake for a bigger walk around. Westlake is clean, including the bathrooms. The host is there to tidy up after guests leave and if you need anything but didn't pester anyone. The lake itself is very pretty. There is aslso a trail to walk around the lake and not just a trail over to Dowdy. We were happy with our stay and will do it again!

Beautiful and quiet little campground. Right next to Dowdy Lake also a favorite destination. These campsites are so hard to get… But so worth it once you get them!
We brought our bikes and rode back roads of the small town of Red Feather. Absolutely beautiful!! 😊

Super clean and quiet. Easy to access and one of our favorite places to kayak. Great for kids. Love the walking path around the lake also.

Love west lake campground

The camsite & fire pit & little house were clean. Traffic a little fast & dusty. Was not clear on the reservation page that this was a double site and therefore double cost. Somehow I missed that and I am usually quite careful. Oh well, you folks can use the $$. Keep up the good work. I would camp here again - need better sign on the highway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great weekend like normal ar Westlake. Camp host does a great job.

I did enjoy my stay at West Lake. But I might not stay here again, at least not in site 27. There was no real tent pad so I spent a long time clearing rocks off the picnic table pad to place my tent. There is no privacy between 27 and 28 at all, but thankfully our neighbors were respectful. But on the first night (Friday) there were two barking dogs near the store (which is a short distance away from site 27 at the end of the lake across the road), and they barked non-stop for about 30 minutes while people were trying to sleep. Then a car alarm from the same area went off for another 10 minutes! Saturday night was better thankfully. The bathrooms and water were just past site 28 which was convenient, and the bathroom was kept very clean, but the smell came up to camp whenever the wind blew which was often. There were lots of hummingbirds and we bought a feeder at the local store to put in a nearby tree and had them buzzing around the rest of the trip which was fun to see. West Lake is pleasant for sure, but small, and only took about 15 minutes to get across and back on a paddleboard. Fishermen line the shore so you mostly had to paddle down the middle of the lake. It was also windy there during our time. I also paddled at nearby Dowdy Lake and that was bigger with some interesting rock formations. You can easily walk to Dowdy Lake, but it's too far to carry a paddleboard. But you get a pass to put on your car that allows you to move your car and park there without paying an extra fee which is good. I did some hiking in the area, one day going to the Mount Margaret area from West Lake and the next day hiking a bit down the road at the Lady Moon Trail (signage there isn't great so be careful about junctions). Both areas have many crisscrossing paths so an app like CoTrex was invaluable to me. The camp host was nice and helped me clear the rocks off the the picnic table pad.

This is a great campground with beautiful views. There's a trail on the far side of the lake that leads to Dowdy Lake.
Red Feather has a couple of good restaurants and shopping options if you need something. Don't forget to check out the Gnome Trail!
