What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

Nice, no secluded camping but it's a nice campground. Think, campground with an hoa..

The Park Rangers are overly aggressive for a National Park. The store was not open when it said it would be. Repeated calls were made and messages left and procedure followed, yet when we arrived with a school group for an educational trip/overnight we were greed with nothing short of a swat team coming in hot and aggressive to our group. This aggressive policing by the Park Ranger continued throughout the weekend with flashing lights and aggressive confrontation for things we had not done wrong. A much better approach would have been to enter into conversations about what the rules were and ways we could adjust to be better guests of the park, but again, we were operating well within the rules and regs of the park and quiet times and usage of the spaces we rented.

Newer restrooms. Nice dump station with gravity fill potable water. Sites are generally small and close but bushes give some privacy.

We were at site A025. We had a lovely view of the dunes, though our site was pretty exposed to the wind. We knew it had little shade and were prepared for that. On a calm day, this would be a beautiful site! We just happened to get punished by the wind the night we stayed there. Restrooms were clean and we appreciated the availability of fresh water.

Pinon Flats is the perfect spot to enjoy the Great Sand Dunes. We walked from our campsite out onto the dunes to watch the sun set. It was Magical! Easy walk back before dark. The bathroom facilities were exceptionally clean and included dishwashing sink and flushing toilets. We used the RV Dump on our way out which also provided potable water.
The pride the rangers and all the care takers have is evident in this park!

Nice campground. It’s sad that the National Parks can’t get a better booking system for campgrounds. A lot of “no shows” don’t allow for others to utilize campsites that go un-occupied.
