What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

site 12 was very nice, pretty spacious compared to the others, besides the tend bed there’s at least two more spots for additional tents. parking might fit two mid size cars, we arrived on a GMC Sierra and I assume if we were to need to park a second car, they’d fit with like a 5” gap in between
the site right before ours (11?) was very close and although we could move in deeper into our campsite away from the neighbors, their site was so tight, right by the road with not that much space: fire pit, tent bed and table were all within a few feet from each other. glad we didn’t reserve that one. next campsite #14 was across a dried creek, so neither of us saw or bothered each other
short 10 min walk to the dunes
there’s a tiny camp store 3 min away with basic necessities to purchase
the main (an the only?) concern was that the bear locker didn’t lock up. the door closes but when you rotate the handle nothing happens and the lock doesn’t hook up, keep that in mind
overall very pleased with our experience!

Nice site. Rockwork surrounding site needs repair. A rock step needed from parking area into the picnic/tent area. Improved pathway needed from site to bathrooms, including steps to accommodate the 3 foot drop to restrooms.

Beautiful campground in a beautiful area. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Mosca Pass, the dunes themselves, and the visitors center are within easy driving distance. Seeing the sun set over the dunes is an unforgettable experience everyone!

We really enjoyed our stay at Piñon Flats Campground. Bathrooms were very clean and the site was in great condition. The view was amazing. You can walk directly onto the Great Sand Dunes from the campground. Highly recommended if you plan on visiting the area.

This is such a great campground overall. Clean, well maintained, and immediately adjacent to the dunes. This campsite is centrally located on Loop 2 and has tons of space to spread out. The shared bathrooms and dumpsters are nearby, but we didn’t find the foot traffic or noise to be an issue. Excellent spot overall.

Everything was prepared even before we arrived. We travelled with a 34 feet RV. The campgeound is very nicely placed in the pinion "forest". We had a very nice view to the great sand dunes. Restrooms were always clesn and well treated. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful rugged site with direct access to North Crestone Creek to filter water. Restrooms and bear-proof containers are in good repair. Definitely worth a stop.
