What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

Compared to many Park campgrounds the sites were close together. Backing in was nearly impossible because the sites were short and tall rock walls along the sides.
Toilets flush type and were relatively clean and odor free. Dump and water station were clean and easy to use. Campground hosts were very nice and helpful. Store was tiny and the nearest real store was 25 or so miles away so do your shopping on the way in.
Zappa Falls park is nearby and very crowded but worth the trip.

Wonderful campground with lovely hosts! Site 24 and the ones around it definitely have the best views.

This was a lovely campsite with easy access to the dunes as well as being nearby the visitor’s center and some mountain. My first night, I settled in after going for a short walk and watching the sun set behind the dunes. I also woke up early to summit the dunes the next morning and viewed the sunrise from on top of the first dune ridge before returning to camp for breakfast. I will definitely stay at this sites again in the future to do some more exploring around the national park.

A good location, not far from hiking trails and the sand dunes. Site was pretty private, close to the bathroom. Saw lots of birds and deer in the campground.

What a great campground! Fabulous views of the Sand Dunes, the camp hosts were super friendly, and the bathroom was immaculate. This is the place to stay when visiting this park. We were able to rise early and hike up to the top of the Dunes before it got too toasty (July visit). So convenient to have our campsite (we were in a tent) so close; there was even a trail directly connecting the campground and the Dunes. Highly recommend.

Been coming here 20 years. Although more crowded than ever, it’s still an amazing place to come.

We loved our stay here! The campsite was well maintained and beautiful. There were some loud visitors nearby, and not everyone understands proper bear/food protocol.

Enjoyed the sand dunes against the backdrop of the mountains. Visitors Center was worthwhile, and the film gave an excellent presentation of the area's history. Campground was set among the pinon pines, with adequate space between sites. A mix of 80% tents and 20% RVs. Only complaint was on our exit. Stopped at the dump station, intending fill our fresh tank. However, instead of a threaded hose connection which is required for such a fill via a hose, the water source hose was a smoothly welded connection that would work just fine filling a 5 gallon water container, but was useless for an RV. C'mon Sand Dunes, fix that!!

The site that we reserved was not made for a trailer and a truck. It required jackknifing of our trailer, which was a no go. The campsite was was noisy up till midnight. Whoever designed the campsite flip-flopped a lot of the campsite so that you couldn’t back into the site you had to turn into the site on a one way road. It was crazy. It was very upsetting. Our campsite also was tilted and was sloped d and we almost lost our trailer. This site was A12 and we won’t be returning again.
