What Guests Are Saying
Pinon Flats Campground is well-regarded for its friendly camp host, Nancy, and beautifully maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and stunning views of the sand dunes. The campground offers a peaceful atmosphere, ample tree cover, and easy access to hiking trails. However, some sites are small and not fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges, and issues with noise from other campers have been noted. Overall, it is a memorable camping experience with great amenities.

Nice campsite with a good view of the dunes.
Park is beautiful, restrooms are clean and the campground is in good condition.
Only problem was very noisy neighbors who partied loudly until we banged on their RV door at 11:00p.m. Obviously not the fault of NPS, just a shame some people have no respect for others.

Don't miss the camp store! Well stocked and open from 7:30am (fresh coffee!) to 7:30pm. It's at the entrance of loop two. Mosquitoes are thick for half an our at sunrise and again at sunset. Super clean bathrooms. Excellent camp hosts.

I picked up a last minute cancellation and got a good site that I was very happy with.

This is the perfect campground for someone who wants to enjoy the views of the dunes! Bathrooms were clean and the sites were spacious. Only recommendation would be for there to be rules in place about adjacent sites to mind their headlights at night. We had several ‘blinding’ moments.

Loved the campground and the campsite. Lots of trees and there was a dry creek next to our site. But we gave it a four because of the red ants that took over most of the site. Not sure why they were there, but they weren't leaving. Seems fair. They were there first. That left us a small area by the campfire ring, so no camp fires. And the ants didn't bother us, so we were all good. Oh, the bathrooms are right across the lane, super convenient. There's also a parking slot to pull into. Easy drive to the Sand Dunes parking lot if it's too hot to take the trail, also located right by the restroom.

The layout of the campground is great. Not a lot of room for big rigs, so very huge generators if any. Lots of shade opportunities no matter what aspect. Caution, there’s wind every evening off the mountains. But it blew the mosquitoes away. But sometimes also too strong to have a campfire. The reservation system left something to be desired however. We had two campsites but only really needed one once we got there. I tried to release the one I had. But, no one could help me at the visitor center because it’s booked through Recreation.gov. There was no Wi-Fi so I couldn’t , get on the Internet to change the reservation. The camp Ground Host couldn’t help either.
It worked out in the end, since we found someone who could actually use the Extra campsite. Another issue with the reservation system I think is that there were lots of empty campsites that were marked reserved. Not sure how to solve that, but even a slight increase in the fee or perhaps of forfeiture after a certain time like nine or 10 o’clock at night. All in all a fun visit.
