My husband and I stayed at Piñon Flats for 3 nights. Our campsite had beautiful views of the dunes. The bathrooms were clean and the camp store was convenient. We loved being able to walk from the campground to hiking trails and the dunes. We also enjoyed exploring Medano Pass (4x4 is required). Definitely recommend and would camp here again.

Nice campground with very clean bathrooms and perfect location in the park. The site was large and could fit two tents in addition to being an RV site (we tent camped) but no privacy without an RV in front. There was a small area of shade on one side that was welcome on a hot day. Three good sized steps up to the tent/picnic table area. Partial dune view that is blocked if there is an RV at the site across the road.

We loved site 47 at Pinon Flats. There was space for 2 tents and seemed larger than other sites at the campground. This site was also spaced apart from other campsites, which was really nice and provided for a little bit more privacy. Deer would come around the brush area surrounding the site, which was really neat. We were in close walking proximity to the bathrooms, so that was really nice too. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. There was enough toilet paper and soap for us to use when there. The campground store was just around the corner from the site, so we could walk over to pick up firewood, tinder and ice. It's about a mile walk from the site to the base of the sand dunes, so we opted to drive. This site got some afternoon shade, but not much for morning/afternoon.

this site has a terrible approach to the picnic area. it would be untenable for older folks or for small children. there are no steps, only a large uneven rock to drop down approximately 2.5 feet. the other two entry ways are not accessible because they are the locations of the camper. one side has a rock wall that may be intended to approach the picnic area, but that is also unsafe and resulted in one of our children slipping and falling, resulting in a gnarly scratch on his knee and bruise on his chest. this entry makes it very hard to efficiently or safely bring things down to the picnic area/bear box as heavy things need to be given to someone already down by the person above. we found it frustrating and nerve wracking. i would not recommend this site to folks with mobility struggles or small children. otherwise it is GREAT! so much shade and a beautiful view.

Loved the campground. Great views and some shade. Bath house could use a bit more light (loop 2 upper side).
