What Guests Are Saying
Amphitheater Campground is highly praised for its stunning views, cleanliness, and friendly, helpful camp hosts who enhance the overall experience. While the campground features tight roads and small sites, making it less suitable for larger RVs, it is ideal for tents and smaller trailers. Some guests noted the need for bear boxes and improvements to the pit toilets, but many expressed their eagerness to return due to the beautiful setting and access to hiking trails.

The Amphitheater Campground is one of our favorites. The sites are spacious and clean. The restrooms were clean and actually smelled good! We discovered the great hiking trails coming right out of the campground and especially enjoyed the Ouray Perimeter Trail.

I have camped in this campground for over 50 years. I have seen it go through many changes. One of the biggest changes was the management from the national forest service to an independent management service. The independent management that currently manages the campground has seriously neglected taking care of a number of things. The outhouses were built in the late 70's or 80's and they just don't work right. They stink the whole campground up, but now there is rotten wood that is supporting the outhouses. They need to be replaced. They have for years. We stayed in two different camp spots and the rotten wood steps are terrible and also need to be replaced before bones get broken. The campground is one of the gems all around and has always bee a pleasure to stay in. Plus the hosts are absolutely wonderful!!!! They were helpful and very friendly! The management company just needs to fix, repair, and update a lot within the whole campground.

The campground is very conveniently located perched on the mountainside directly above Ouray. The campsites are large and the mountain views are great. Both Steve and David were the nicest, friendliest campground hosts we've ever encountered.
