What Guests Are Saying
Amphitheater Campground is highly praised for its stunning views, cleanliness, and friendly, helpful camp hosts who enhance the overall experience. While the campground features tight roads and small sites, making it less suitable for larger RVs, it is ideal for tents and smaller trailers. Some guests noted the need for bear boxes and improvements to the pit toilets, but many expressed their eagerness to return due to the beautiful setting and access to hiking trails.

Steve the camp host is so friendly and helpful and wants you to have the best experience. The campsite is well maintained and has the best views of Ouray. Will be back!

Mixed bag. This is a great spot with easy access to town, trails and sulfur free hot springs.
My site 15 had a sweet view of the mountains in the morning, and the red rock ampitheater at the back of the campground is beautiful.
There was zero shade however, so it gets hot until evening. Many trees in the campground have died, so lack of shade is a growing problem at many sites.
The pit toilet bathrooms except for one by the campground host are outdated and really smelly. The campground hosts are super friendly and clean the toilets often, and the sites are clean, but the weeds and dead branches are out of control. This is a great area, but the campground needs some love.

Ray is a beautiful town and the campground is not too far out of town, but you feel very remote. The campground hosts are great. Beware if you’re pulling a trailer that all of the sites are small. I’ve been there twice now and it takes some fancy parking even with a short trailer. The bathrooms (vault toilets) are super clean. I did parts of the perimeter trail, it’s beautiful, but if you’re not in shape, it would be very difficult. Parts of it are so steep they cut stairs into the trail for you.

Pit toilet fan rattled constantly, much worse than a generator running.
