About Heaton Bay

Heaton Bay Campground is situated at an elevation of 9,000 feet and centrally located for recreation and relaxation in the White River National Forest. There is little or no shade in the campground due to pine beetle infestation and the removal of hazard trees, but the sites offer open views to Dillon Reservoir and several mountain ranges.

Site 75 is a beautiful site. Usually, you can paddle right from the lakefront out to the big lake, but since the lake level was so low, it was only a pond, making it impossible to reach the lake. We saw eagles and ospreys. Lovely campground with great views.

I liked this site, area for two tent spots against the trees which offers shade all morning. Picnic table does get sun late morning on. Pit toilets. Easy access to the reservoir and bike paths.
