Host was pleasant. Clean area. Clean pit restrooms. Enjoyed small town amenities. Saw a Malayan Weasel, just as cute as could be. No people of ill nature.

The sites could be a little more level but otherwise was clean and spread out well enough.

Important- if you read the fine print for this site - E74, it states that this is a campground host site and that it’s not reservable (even though it lets you reserve). I didn’t see this note until I received the reservation reminder email a couple of days before our trip, which sent me into a panic. I didn’t understand why rec.gov would let me book a non-book able site.
I called rec.gov and they confirmed what the email said and that I should “get in touch with the campground”, which is near impossible.
Fortunately, we live about an hour away, so I drove up first to be sure we’d have a site upon arrival.
Thankfully, that information is incorrect and this is NOT a campground host site. I spoke to the host and showed her the email, and she was confused that that information was on there. She thought it must be old.
Long story short, if you see that note on your reservation, don’t panic - you will have a site when you get there.
Heaton Bay is a wonderful campground and we always love our experience there.

Some sites are close to the water. Sites are mostly level. Due to the unique layout of each site, it is helpful to see before reserving. Only suggestion is to have a dump station within the campground.

Lots of shady trees, very clean, access to water and campers aren’t on top of each other (plenty of space).

Favorite campground in Summit County! It’s clean, well groomed, right on lake Dillon and close to stores.
