We have camped here for many years and have always enjoyed the quiet solitude of this place. However this year when we arrived at our campsite we were met with a box trailer with a tent in the site next to ours. They had a contractor generator they were using to power their "construction site". Yes they were building a camper out of the box trailer. The generator was powering the saws, drills and it ran all day and evening until 10 pm. 2 days later someone moved into the site on the other side of us, they also had a contractor generator which they placed on the back side of their trailer (so they didn't have to hear it) and started it before they even unhooked the trailer from their truck. Again it ran all day and evening. The use of generators running all day totally ruined our trip.

As a non generator using camper this was the worst experience ever. We have had this complaint many times before. There are campers who really want to camp and they want peace and an absence of mechanical noises. We could not have a conversation at normal speaking level. We stayed one night at Midway and there the tents were stuck in front of the dumping station. Please design a spot for people like us who enjoy pure nature away from generators and busy traffic. Also don’t call it tent only because some campers do have pop ups and vans. Call them quiet areas and forbid the noise of any mechanical or electric object. I hope you are taking this seriously and we will be able to use your beautiful campgrounds in the future.

Hi. It’s a great spot for a local to get away from the city lights. But the campground gets crowded and the traffic from the nearby road is noticeable through the night.
At 10pm lights were out and that was nice. Everyone was polite. We enjoyed it. But didn’t get the best sleep because if the traffic

Nice campground with clean bathrooms. Showers definitely would have been nice. Come prepared for a try Everglades experience including wading and mosquitoes.

Every single tent site had 2-3 tents. It was ridiculous how many people were there. Never going again. We’ve been camping here for over a decade but this irresponsible overbooking is unacceptable and has totally ruined our experience.

We assumed there was water at the campsite. So we arrived with a low tank. At that point the host told us that the park service had capped off the hose bib and the only water was the deep sink outside of the washroom. He was very helpful and said I could use that water. He assumed I would have to fill up jerry jug and then put in RV. Fortunately I was able to hook a hose up to the spigot on the sink and fill up via hose. However, the off duty host came over and said I should not do that. There was some discussion between the hosts and during that time I filled tank. So I was fine.
My advice to newcomers: Arrive a Monument Lake with adequate fresh water.
At any rate, management needs to either put out a notice that there is no water a Monument Lake, or fix the hose bib so there is water. At least there should not be a problem with campers getting water from the bath house by whatever means they have to come up with.
At any rate our host was great and we enjoyed our stay.

Best boondocking experience we had in thr Big Cypress Preserve. The Lake is lovely, camp hosts were helpful and available, facilities were clean and well maintained. We'd definitely visit again.

I have been coming to the Everglades for over 25 years and have been going to Monument Lake for more than 10 of those. This year was the most relaxing trip I have ever had. No rain but a bit windy on the last day. Will keep going as long as I am able to.
