Petersburg

I have been a little disappointed by our camping at Petersburg site this year. We had neighbors who were loud and shining bright lights (very bright lights) until after midnight. It was always my understanding that campsites should be quiet by around 10 PM. Also, there was a broken toilet in the ladies room that was not fixed over two days of camping. It used to be that the bathrooms were cleaned very early every morning. However, even with those unfortunate experiences, we will return to Petersburg and hope that things improve. We tent camp, which becomes more difficult each year as more rock/gravel is added to campsites for those with campers. It's hard to drive in tent stakes. However, the campsites are large and private and the bathhouse has hot water. Hope this helps someone else!

Sites provide reasonable privacy. If you're seeking great connectivity, this isn't for you.
We came before peak season, so the campground was not full, and was very quiet. I imagine the toilet and shower facilities would be crowded if the campground was full.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds, and we visit a few times a year. The sites are so spacious and private. Most have great water access. The bath houses offer wonderful hot strong-pressured showers in a very clean building. There are two swim beaches! The hosts are always so kind and helpful and just set the tone for the whole visit the minute we check in. We love it here.

This is my kinda camping. No wild parties, no drinking, no loud parties.

Perfect.

We had a good week at Petersburg. Pretty swim area and our campsite #14 was overlooking one of the fingers of the lake. Nicely shaded and easy to fish from the bank. The Bartram Trail was very nice for hiking and mountain biking, and we did a 5 mi round trip hike one morning, and I later rode my bike 20 mi round trip from the campground to the Dam. The free laundry was a very short walk from our site. It was nice to get a week’s worth of laundry done before get-a-way day.

My visit was for one night only and I enjoyed it so much that I stayed another night. Most of my activites involved walking my dog throughout the campsite , getting some much needed exercise as well. Mostly though , scouting for sites that I would be interested in for the next visit. The camp receptionist at the checkin gate was very nice and helpful. So were the caretakers as well.The grounds were imaculate. My only wish is for the sites to be paved. I can only imagine what they would be like in the rainy season and you are there. Some sites were paved , If I remember correctly 22-26 but then they are not large enough for some vehicles. I was in a minivan so I could have gone on all sites. Some sites are cojoined , sort of, and at the same time some are really private. My first site was 53, very private, and the following day, site 47 , just accross the street and not so private , nevertheless a great site as you are next to the "sea Wall". One site that stood out to me ( there were many) and can take a large vehicle, is site 34. It is next to the fishing pier. Bathrooms were well kept . This place gets dark at night!! Luckily the second night had a full moon. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return. I highly recommend this camground . I visited Ridge Road as I was in the area and much preferred Petersburgh.

We love camping at Petersburg Campground. Most of the sites are situated where you can’t even see your neighbors. Core of engineers are the best campgrounds because they really take such good care of them. Petersburg is not far from Evan’s, Ga. where you can find anything you need. Walmart, Lowe’s, and many restaurants. Of course Augusta is just down the road from there with its beautiful river walk alongside the Savannah River. You will really enjoy your trip.
