Zilpo, a large, fun-filled campground on Cave Run Lake, is a prime destination for families. The scenic campground offers a cabin rental, tent camping, RV sites with electric hookups and a selection of lakefront sites. Views of the lake are enjoyed by those who relax on the sandy beach. Tater Knob, a fire tower open to the public, is nearby, offering outstanding views of the area.

The campsites were infested with lone star ticks, but that's nature. We were disappointed that the water spigots were out of order and we had to drive to the bathhouse to get water. The campground was clean and the showers were nice and hot. It's our 4th trip there and we will be back!

Beautiful campground! Appreciated having a bathhouse nearby. Water pumps didn’t work and the loop was inundated with poison ivy, so that was a bit difficult to avoid. We enjoyed the beach area.

Campground was nice and space between sites on the H Loop was adequate. I felt that $50+ after taxes and fees was pretty high for a tent site that doesn’t have electricity or potable water within walking distance.

I love Zilpo, it's a diamond in the rough. The only thing is the ticks, they're awful, but it's a site by site basis. A couple years ago I had a site that was tick o plenty. Spray your gear with permetherine, and 30% Deet works just fine. Though Zilpo is set back and out of the way, I mean set in tbe way back of Bath County, it really is great.

Beautifully maintained spaces where the gravel is raked and the fire pit cleaned out. Hosts went out of their way to help us and even offered to go into town to pick up propane but I had just enough. Lovely trails to the lake.

Policies & Rules

General

  • Limit 6 people and 2 vehicles per single campsite; additional vehicles will be charged an additional fee per night; additional guest will be charged $2 per night.
  • Each cabin has 2 double bunk beds with out mattresses, Please bring your own sleeping bags or other bedding.Each cabin can accommodate up to 6 people and 1 vehicle. Tents and RVs are not allowed at the cabins.
  • Beach is opened from Memorial day to Labor day, unless flooding occurs hours of operation are 11am to 8 pm
  • Only Authorized companies are allowed to drop off and set up rental trailers, all unauthorized RV trailer rental deliveries will be turned away.
  • Reserved Sites will be held until check out time (NOON) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
  • Don't Move Firewood: Help protect our forests! Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood at or near your destination and burning it on-site. Moving firewood is illegal in some states. Visit dontmovefirewood.org to learn more.
  • A discount of 25% is now available for reservations that include 7 or more consecutive days.
