What Guests Are Saying
Zilpo Campground offers beautiful, secluded sites with excellent access to the lake, making it a great destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground is well-maintained, with clean restrooms and friendly staff, although some services like water access and store items may be limited. While noise from other campers can be an issue, many visitors appreciate the serene environment and recommend Zilpo for its scenic beauty and enjoyable activities.

This was my group's 10th year staying at Zilpo. The camp site are in my opinion the best because of the seclusion, maintained, and level. Cave Run Lake was walking distance from my campsite. Camp host was great and friendly.

Pretty good site and campground, but be advised that site H001 (and H002) are listed as "waterfront" but the water is not actually accessible from the site (there's a very steep cliff that leads down to the water). The grate for cooking over the fire pit was broken, also, but we had our own.

Zilpo is a great campground, if not underutilized.
- Our RV site was well-paved and had fine gravel over the common area. There was a nice fire ring, a hook on a pole, and a picnic table.
- The restrooms and showers were clean with plenty of hot water (solar heated, so it's hot in the summer, and mild in the spring and fall).
- Most of the campground has poor cell service (AT&T, T-Mobile) but going up the hill from the check-in gate is a cell tower that provides excellent reception.
- The beach was not in great shape - the sand was littered with hard gravel that made walking barefoot painful - with the gravel extending well into the water. It was better to swim outside of the beach areas where it was much more sandy. The water was clean.
- The campground store was closed but set to open within a few days of our departure. There was a maintenance issue that deferred its opening. The closest store is 30 minutes away near Salt Lick. Firewood and ice are sold at the gatehouse, though.
I wish more amenities were offered at Zilpo. There are trails around but they are not advertised (compared to a state park). Sadly, the fire tower was never rebuilt although it would make for a nice observation platform (minus the shelter building).

The campground is very nice however the camp store is closed. This is a major inconvenience as there are no stores near this campsite if you forget anything. They do sell ice and firewood at the entry station but only during daytime hours of operation.

Flattest campsite we have ever been to. We stayed 5 nights and toured historical sites all around the region. The camp sites are well maintained - brush cleared, no poison ivy, and the shower facilities are convenient and cleaned daily. The campground filled up as we got to the weekend but guests adhered to quiet hours. We wished there were electric sites closer to the lake but it worked well for us - even with rain for several days and nights.

The campsites at Zilpo right next to the lake are wonderful. The kayaking is great in the middle of the week when there are fewer speed boats. The bath houses are cleaned regularly and the roads are well maintained. Its too bad the camp store is closed and you have to watch out for poison ivy... its everywhere.

We absolutely loved our trip to Zilpo. The campground was clean. The shower rooms are very outdated and could use some love but the water is hot and does the job. Would have loved to have an outdoor sink to do dishes since we are tent campers. We ultimately ended up leaving after our first night bc the ticks were so bad and we were traveling with a 2 and 1 year old and I was pulling 3-4 ticks off of them and myself every time I looked! But we realize it’s the outdoors and that stuff happens. We will definitely come back. We enjoyed some time at the beach. It was nice. The beach area is mostly small pebbles and not sand. The camp store was closed for renovations when we went (June 17) . We stayed in the E loop on site E12…it’s a great site!

The camp needs significant repairs. There were no working water pumps in our loop. The bathrooms rarely had soap. The picnic tables were infested with ants. The camp store was closed. The staff was very friendly and helpful; I wish the facilities were as strong.
