What Guests Are Saying
Zilpo Campground offers beautiful, secluded sites with excellent access to the lake, making it a great destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground is well-maintained, with clean restrooms and friendly staff, although some services like water access and store items may be limited. While noise from other campers can be an issue, many visitors appreciate the serene environment and recommend Zilpo for its scenic beauty and enjoyable activities.

Love the campground. Lots of space between sites, and lots of shade. The camp host were very friendly.

Great campsite, excellent staff. The bath/shower houses were not the greatest (lots of spiders), but sufficient. Also, the site we reserved on recreation.gov was somehow double booked. Fortunately there were plenty of spots available and the staff let us have our pick.
There is a good trailhead in the site which leads to an amazing overlook of the lake. Also, the marina at the lake rents boats. There is also some great fishing.

This was a great, out of the way destination. It turned out to be a very popular destination as well and for good reason. Nice beach and clean campground and toilets.

The bathrooms were not kept up. Always out of soap. Toilets stopped up. There were terrible. We have been having a family reunion weekend at Zilpo for 25 years and I have never seen it like this.

Wonderful campground, came there mid week, and it wasn’t busy at all. Bathrooms are cleaned every day took the hike up to the Lookout, just beautiful.

No issues. Low traffic and a relatively quiet area. Cellphone coverage is spotty and best in loops G and H. Toilets were reasonably clean, and the showers were hot! If you are allergic to poison ivy, take care, there is quite a bit of that around. If you are into birds, several birds in the area are interesting to see and hear. Access to the lake was easy for paddleboarding and swimming. All in all, a pleasant stay!

It is very difficult to leave this so-so review. On the one hand, I feel that I should communicate my experience so others know what to expect, at least in 2023, but on the other hand I don’t want to leave an overly negative impression about a nice area run by nice folks.
Anyway, the TL;DR is: TICKS. Lots of TICKS, June 8, 2023. I don’t blame the park at all, but the tick population was crazy and completely ruined my very short stay (I bugged out within an hour or so of starting to set up camp). I saw more ticks in the short time I was there than I’ve seen in the rest of my 60 years.
If you’ve read this far, I want to say that the kind people that were working that evening delivered firewood to me, even though they’d just shut down for the day (they close the gatehouse around 6-6:30). The campground and campsite were clean and orderly, and it’s just a beautiful area. Too bad Mother Nature saw fit to have it be a banner tick year 😑.

My husband and I stayed at Zilpo campgrounds for seven days in May 2023.We have been going there for many years. We had a wonderful time like always.New people are over it now. Everyone we meet was very nice and accommodating. Everything was very clean. If you haven’t gone there you need to. I highly recommend it.

Facilities are fantastic and campsites are spacious and well taken care of. All staff members were very friendly and willing to help or answer any questions that were had. Will definitely continue our anual camping trip plus more!
