What Guests Are Saying
Zilpo Campground offers beautiful, secluded sites with excellent access to the lake, making it a great destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The campground is well-maintained, with clean restrooms and friendly staff, although some services like water access and store items may be limited. While noise from other campers can be an issue, many visitors appreciate the serene environment and recommend Zilpo for its scenic beauty and enjoyable activities.

It's very important to understand that after Labor Day (or pre-Memorial Day/, you're pretty much on your own... Public access to the beach (and the beach pantry!) is closed, and finding someone at the main gate if you need ice or firewood is hit or miss. HOWEVER...go after Labor Day, and go midweek if at all possible...it's like (no, it's NOT like, you DO have a Federal Campground to your own! No yapping dogs, no obnoxious party goers, no CW music @ 120 decibels till dawn....it's camping bliss at nature's best. OMG, why did I let you in on this????

Our site and cabin were nice, clean and welcoming. We had a very short drive to the boat ramp which was never crowded. It was a great weekend for the whole family! We will definitely be back!

Staff (host, kiosk attendants) was great!
Physical state of the campground was dismal, with the exception of the cleanliness of the sites (sites were very clean).
Branches overhanging the roads were not trimmed - many of them came in contact with our motorhome (12'3"). Bathroom facilities were clean, but in various states of disrepair. Handicap-accessible shower in H-loop provided merely a trickle and the door could not be locked. Store was poorly stocked. Beach road did not open until well after 11am. Major potholes in the roads. Several legs of the picnic table at our site were rotted at the bottom and the table was unstable.

Great campground but watch out for ticks. They are everywhere. We didn't even walk off our gravel site and had 8 of them on us between 3 people.

Had an excellent time camping here. Our camp hosts Rick and Lynn were so lovely and helpful even delivering wood and ice directly to our site. The facilities were clean and the site was easy to access.

Our cabin was super cute, comfortable & exactly what we wanted. Getting the key though involved calling 2 different numbers & took about 20min. I don’t understand why the gatehouse was closed at close to check-in (230pm), but it was.
The lake was wonderful, although the rocks on the beach hurt our feet (my 7yr old actually cut his foot on one). We ended up wearing our flip-flops to swim in because the rocks continued far into the water. I'm unsure as to why they didn't use river rocks or pebbles instead of driveway grade gravel.
Also the camp store was closed, which we weren’t informed of, so that wasn't exactly convenient. They were doing some kind of renovation to the stairs, so it wasn't short notice for them. I even rechecked the website but it still said it was open for business.
Most of the bathrooms were out of order as well.
Overall, it was a good "primitive camping" experience, but it definitely could have been better. I hope things are improved by the next time we visit!
