Easy to check in. We stayed on Lot 60 in the Oceanside. Long walk from the car down a boardwalk and up a dune so be prepared- recommend a cart with wheels if you can have one. Bring as much firewood as you can but you can buy more about 10 minutes away. This is a really nice size lot. Not too far from bathrooms and showers. Keep in mind no showere early in the season (before Memorial Day). Will come again (and hope for warmer weather!). Don’t go in April! We rented the lot for two nights and went home after the first day due to the cold. Want to come back in warmer weather. Good luck!

We loved camping with the wild ponies! The Visitor Center talks were great and our campsite hosts were great!

If you have a rig vs. tent, chose your site wisely because many put the picnic table on the opposite as your door.

We camped for 3 nights in site C-45 Bayside at Assateague National Park in early April. We enjoyed camping on the bay side for the first time; earlier trips had all been at the ocean side camp sites. We caught a break on the weather; it was a little chilly but sunny and nice enough to hike and ride bikes each day. And no bugs this early in the year!
We really enjoyed our walks on the 3 main trails in the park. There had been significant improvements in both the 'Life of the Marsh' trail and the 'Life of the Woods' Trail since the last time we camped here. And the 'Life of the Dunes' trail was a fun walk, and interesting look at some of the artifacts of the history of Assateague Island before it became a national seashore.
We were camping in a 5th wheel camper, so were were quite comfortable camping early in the year when they had not yet turned on the showers, and had no concerns camping in a campground with only vault toilets.
The one suggestion I would have for the park would be to add a 2nd spot at the Dump Station / Fresh Water Fill-up station. We had a considerable wait for the dump station on the way out, and we were happy that nobody was in line behind us for the 20 minutes we tied up the Fresh Water Fill-up station on check-in day.

I have been wanting to come to Assateague for awhile now and i have to say…it is amazing! From coming over the bridge and seeing the wild horses to scoring an oceanside campsite…it was wonderful! We spent some time in Berlin on way in. Cute town…grabbed a great lunch and some cute shops.
