Beautiful. Peaceful. We visited off seasonβ¦last 2 days/nights in March. It was windy, chilly but sunny days and clear star filled nights. Our site was amazing, right on the beach. Paved but partially sand covered. Plenty of privacy. Horses here are truly wildβ¦what a unique experience! Nice easy trails to explore and a long paved 5 mile over the bridge and back path.

We really enjoyed our stay at Assateague. Our campsite in the Bayside loop was level and private. The only negative was that the living area was situated on the wrong side. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed biking on the wonderful bike paths and through the campground loops. Seeing the horses was a real treat and all of the boardwalks were amazing. The Visitors Center was also very nice and the displays were very informative.

We camped in late March and stayed on both Bayside (for one night) and Oceanside (for three nights). The weather was a mix of cold, wet and beautiful, The park is very well kept, extremely beautiful and a really special place with the ocean, bay, wild ponies, wild turkeys and an unbelievable assortment of birds. The Camp hosts were friendly and very helpful. The Park Rangers were welcoming, kind and extremely knowledgeable . Overall a great time, can't wait to go back!

Great site nice spot to put tent that is sheltered. However there is a walking path directly though the site so not so private. Close to the beach but a bit sheltered by dunes.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. Assateague is not for the feint of heart, though. Be smart about the horses and keep your food put away. We view Assateague camping as a survival exercise. If you want luxury, go somewhere else.

A must visit even in the winter! Please help pick up trash that sadly is found around the island.

Assateague Island NS is a contrast in ocean environments. The pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the quiet Bay on the other side. February thru April are good times to camp and explore on the Bay side because there are no insects and few people. Many people come to see the wild ponies but there is a host of other wildlife to experience in Assateague. The staff are friendly and helpful. And, might as well address the gorilla in the room: This National Seashore is in danger just like all the other sites that the NPS administers. If you care about these gems and agree with the notion that National Parks are America's best idea, please get involved. Your representatives need to hear from you that more cuts to the NPS, which was already understaffed and underfunded, is unacceptable. Once they are gone, we won't get them back. YOUR PUBLIC LANDS!!
