Unfortunately, there was no water at the campsite due to a problem noted in recent (4days ago) testing . We luckily had water from our last campsite, but would have been in a serious jam if we had not. If water is not available, the campers who have reserved a spot should be notified by email of the new concern.
We woke up to lots of mosquitos which was not pleasant - bring big spray!
The site was large and roomy and the canal was beautiful!

We greatly enjoyed a gentle family time--four generations in two sites--ample space between campers but high fun energy in the air. Bikers, hikers, boaters enjoying themselves. We were just chilling this weekend highlighted by my sons playing guitar around the campfire. On other trips, we have canoed on Antietam Creek (taking out at the campground), canoed on the Potomac (also taking out at the campground), biked down to Harpers Ferry for the day and come back to camp, and, one September, picked Paw Paws (a native fruit Jefferson was fascinated by).
I find the aqueduct just southeast of the campground to be fascinating--the kids liked the idea of a swimming pool on top of a bridge to get the canal boats over the creek. On this trip, a few minutes after we broke camp, we were touring the Antietam battlefield. Thanks.

From Hagerstown MD: Take MD-65 to Sharpsburg. Make a right on Main St. then left on Harpers Ferry Road for a few miles. Before you cross the Antietam Creek bridge, make a right on Canal Rd. Campsites are across the canal and towpath from Canal Rd.
From West Virginia: Take WV-480 through Shepherdstown across the Potomac River. Make the first right after the bridge on Canal Rd. Follow Canal Rd a few miles until you see the campsites on your right before Antietam Creek.
Antietam Creek Campsite is accessible via MD-65, which leads to Sharpsburg, and is approximately 10 miles from I-70.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
