This camping area is perfect if you have a tent or hammock, are driving in, and want a place that is near Antietam Battlefield or any of the other attractions around the area. Fire rings and picnic tables are provided. The Camp Host is extremely helpful both with camping and with local area knowledge.

Overall great experience at this campground. We stayed in site 12 and I mainly wanted to give pros and cons of this specific site in my review to help other campers pick a site. Parking is on the main road beside the campground and you have to walk across a bridge to get to the sites- the bridge is near site 9, so site 12 was decently close to our car. It was nearly impossible to go down the bank to get to the river at site 12, it was very steep. Also from the walking/bike path down to site 12 was steep, there were definitely other sites with a shorter and less steep walk to the actual site (mainly sites 1-9). That being said, site 12 was a very large space and had plenty of distance from neighboring sites. You could easily fit 4+ tents in this area, it was also very shaded with trees. Restrooms are located near sites 6/7, they were maintained and not disgusting. Campsite host was friendly and minded his own, great location near Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown.

We visited in the last week of August. Overall, the place is beautiful. The river is less than 20-30 feet from the camping area. The entire camping area is covered by trees - so there is shade throughout (we used campsites 3 and 4 for a 15 member group). The bathrooms were ok (not very clean, but functional). The grill and fit pit were a bit dirty - we had to clean before using.

Came in around 1 am. The grounds are self check-in. You’re given a number with your reservation to call if there’s squatters, which we had no issue with, so it seems that people respect this reservation process. The site seems to attract good people, our neighbors respected quiet hours, and a neighboring couple approached us upon arrival asking if we’d lost a dog. They subsequently took care of the lost dog and housed him until animal control could handle it the next day, super nice people. The ground is relatively level and the facilities are clean.

I didn't realize your car is not parked near your site. There is a creek between the parking (on the side of the road) and your tent site. Unfortunately during my stay a few of the guests did not respect the quiet hours and were collecting wood from other people's campsites at 12:30AM while also talking quite loudly. The campground host is on the other side of the street and could not have possibly heard the loud guests and therefore wasn't able to intervene. Additionally an airport is nearby and planes fly over constantly as well as loud boats early in the AM. The sites are sort of on top of each other and the trek down to the river from my site (12) was washed out and difficult without using hands and feet. Will not be returning to this campground again. There is a nice walking trail along the Potomac, but bring bug spray.

Really enjoyed this site. I did not read that these sites are not drive up sites. Luckily site 9 is the closest the to bridge and the parking area. Over all really satisfied with the place. I hiked the canal tow path a few miles in each direction and swam in the Potomac.
