This park is kept clean, the campground bathrooms spotless as well. Wish ranger programs continued past Labor Day.
E-bike renter on south edge of Empire was terrific! Kayak rental for Platte River with vendor just outside the campground was perfect.
Firewood was not kept stocked by external vendor when we were there and is cheaper just outside the campground.
Can’t wait to return.

This is the second year we've stayed in Platt River with our 25' Airstream. Great campground. Showers! The sites are all large and mostly level. Very nice spot for exploring Sleep Bear. It's a bit farther away from the main attractions like the dune climb and such, but it's not too far. DH Day is too small for most trailers, even though it's in a better location, so if you're in a 25' and up trailer, Platt River is the best spot.

Fantastic campground with more tent centric areas as well as RV centric areas. 4 miles of beach is about a mile hike from the campground, stellar for breakfast or an after dinner walk. Walk-in sites have individual bear lockers and are very private, parking for walk in sites is not as defined as it could be.
Our National Parks and the National Park Service are awesome!

This is a beautiful campground! The beach is wide, clean, lots of sand, and very well kept. The sites are a nice size, easy walk/bike to get around. The bathrooms are very clean. Recent updates were noted. It was quiet during our stay (off season). Close to Sleeping Bear Dunes- which is why we came here. Absolutely love this area. It's obvious that Michigan's DNR is well supported. I wish Wisconsin would take notes. We loved our stay!

We stayed in spot 425 for 3 nights the second week of September.
Spot 425 was right next to the restroom, which I hadn't expected. For some reason the map made it appear further away. Anyway, it turned out to be a non-issue. The toilets are modern marvels: flush toilets, sinks with running water and hand dryers and the showers were individual, not communal. Nirvana for a tent camper! Speaking of which, they're available to tent campers (I'm thinking of you, Tippecanoe River State Park.)
All of the sites were relatively large. Site 425 was much lower than the rest of the camp. This is good in that on a breezy night, the breeze was over our heads, keeping us warmer and the fire under control. We also like to quietly play music at night, so the sound didn't travel as easily to the other sites. However, it would have been bad during a large rainstorm. It's basically a rain catch basin. Since all food, or anything with a scent, needs to be kept inside a locked vehicle due to ravenous, ornery raccoons, this meant many trips up and down the hill to our vehicle.
There's a really nice hike at the back of the campground that leads directly to Lake Michigan. The ranger told us it as 3/4 mile, but my smart watch recorded 1.3 miles each way. It's worth it but not for someone with physical limitations as there is about a 1/4 mile of thick sand that's difficult to walk through.
If you're looking for a nicely kept campground with large spots in a remote area with plenty of hiking and water sports, this is for you.
