What Guests Are Saying
Black River Harbor Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful setting with well-maintained sites and proximity to stunning waterfalls and Lake Superior. Many visitors appreciate the privacy between campsites and the cleanliness of the facilities, despite some concerns about limited water access and steep trails. Overall, it’s a great spot for outdoor activities and a relaxing getaway, though mobility issues and the lack of potable water may be drawbacks for some.

Although we loved our campsite (18) the campground road really needs re-paving and the lack of water at the entire complex is really unheard of in our National Forest CG experience. Time for reinvestment in this beautiful park.

Black River Harbor Campground is such a pleasant campground. It's so close to beautiful waterfalls to hike to. Hiking to the lake is a nice change. Guys loved to skip rocks. We would recommend this for people who like the quiet, peaceful campgrounds.

This is a nice campground but there was no water and we had no notification ahead of time (they are repairing it and then have to do water quality tests so it was going to be at least a few more weeks after mid-August). The sites are well spaced and shaded. Lots of road potholes but they make good speed bumps :-) There is no campground host. It’s a nice less-packed alternative to the Porcupine Mountain State Park campgrounds, with a drive that’s less than an hour. The harbor is very quaint, small with a great beach around the corner to the right; the waterfalls are great, there’s access to the North Country Trail. Overall good experience other than the lack of water.

Overall, the campground met our expectations for a National Forest campground. I really hope they can get the water system up and running again soon, because it was inconvenient to have to restock our water supply every day. The beach here is really nice, though it was frustrating that the footpath from the campground to the Pavilion area was closed. There's also no firewood available for purchase at this campground.
There were far more RVs here than we were expecting, and some people were really inconsiderate with their generator use.
Otherwise, the bathrooms were EXTREMELY clean, the campground was quiet, and the views and beach were spectacular. If you're wanting to take day trips to Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park, it takes about an hour to drive there.

Beautiful and well kept campsites, quiet campground, clean bathrooms, close to the lake and awesome hiking trails nearby. This campground is for rugged camping however due to minimal or no satellite reception, no running water, no hand sanitizer in the bathrooms, no firewood, moderate difficulty accessing the lake, and deep potholes in the road entering the campground. Also the closest town is 20 minutes away should you need any groceries, etc.
