What Guests Are Saying
Bay Furnace Campground is praised for its clean, spacious sites and quiet atmosphere, with easy access to Lake Superior and nearby attractions like Pictured Rocks. Reviewers appreciate the well-maintained restrooms and the beauty of the surrounding area, making it a great spot for outdoor activities. However, many noted the access road's severe potholes as a significant downside, which detracts from the overall experience.

Location is good, it's quiet and inexpensive with our pass. Pit toilets are nice - clean/no odor (toilet seat). However the roads in the campground are horribly beat up and are rough even driving a truck, so you can imagine how it is driving a trailer. We were unable to sit outside due to the mosquitos, and our site wasn't on the water. Just getting in/out, I had several mosquito bites and was wearing long pants & long sleeves. We saw a young girl wearing a mosquito net run from the trailer to the car. For the price/location, if passing through, we would stay again.

The host at the campground are always friendly- Jill and Darin always keep the grounds clean and are very helpful. 3rd year back because of them.
Easy access to Lake Superior and campsites are private. Area has many tourist sites to see close to the campground.

Incredible location, convenient drive to pictures rocks (30 minutes to miners beach and 40 minutes to chapel rock trail head), gas station across the street yet still feels secluded and remote. Very clean, camp hosts are very friendly. Park within campground. One of my favorite destinations to camp in the US. Can’t wait to return!

As always, it is a beautiful sport. Two suggestions: the road is horrendous and gets worse every year. Second, the last remaining furnace is falling into major disrepair with huge trees growing out of the stones. Organize a cleanup day and have visitors help. Pay to professionally remove the large trees. It is a beautiful campground. It’s your responsibility to maintain it!!!!

campsite was pretty and private. sadly, the weather was terrible.
our biggest suggestion is to improve the entrance/exit road. it is in very bad condition.

Unfortunately, the mosquitos were so bad we had to stay inside our van. We were hoping to sit out and enjoy the evening, and have a fire since we were just there for one night. The campground itself is primitive (only pit toilets) which we knew and were fine with. The actual site (26) was large and private, which was great. The bugs were a bummer.

Campground was very spacious and well kept. Vault toilets were one of nicest we have been to. Because the campground is decently close to the road, it is very loud at times. Sunday morning there was a good 15 minute span where it sounded like someone was continuously revving their engine.

We enjoyed our stay at Bay Furnace Campground. It was conveniently located close to the town of Munising. The sites were spacious and shaded by tall pines. Very close to the lake with a walking trail to a small rocky shoreline. The dump station was easy to access. The boat ride to Pictured Rocks made for a pleasant morning, followed by lunch at one of several restaurants in the downtown area.
