What Guests Are Saying
Ausable River Camping offers a beautiful and serene environment, with spacious, well-maintained sites and picturesque views of the river. Campers appreciate the remote, rustic charm and the opportunities for fishing and hiking. While there are some concerns regarding ticks, road conditions, noise from generators, and occasional issues with campsite bookings, many visitors still express a strong desire to return for another experience in nature.

Site was awesome as always. Good spot to pull up kayaks. Neighbors are about a 1/4 mile away. Room enough for two families

Too many sites are reserved and left empty. Our two favorite sites were empty the whole week we were there and yet we had to take a less desirable site.

Generally a nice quiet experience, and it was for the first 5 days. But some campers came in for the weekend and packed 10 cars and 4 tents into site 44, even had a tent on the trail. Played loud music and hooped and hollered until 1:30 in the morning. Total disrespect for fellow campers and no Authorities enforced the rules.

57D Sawmill point good water access with steps about 2/3 of the way down and easy slope rest of way.

Michigan’s Au Sable river is the gem of the north. On the Alcona Pond, Campsite 4D is a good one. The wooden “steps” that are supposed to facilitate canoe landings actually are in the way of a good canoe landing. Remove them, do not replace them.
The campground is nice, the fire ring was the best that we found on the river. Further upstream were fire rings that were unnecessarily heavy, expensive, and complex. Two concentric,, steel fire rings with concrete in between them, is not the best design by a long ways. A ring of rocks would be better, and cheaper.

Quiet spot, quite secluded but you can still hear road traffic. River road is close and full of amenities and attractions as well as oscoda and the lakeside being only a 30 minutes drive. Some trash from other campers and long ago campers but nothing too unsightly.
