We thought this campground was very underrated! The location is perfect for early morning access to the spectacular GTTSR and it's a short drive to Many Glacier which is no less amazing. We had a great site with plenty of room for our large tent. It was a short walk to the bathroom and to views of the mountains over the St. Mary River. Highly recommended!

Positives:
-VERY convenient location
-easily used camping confirmation email as reservation to the Going to the Sun Road
-liked the location of our tent site because it was close to the bathrooms, garbage cans (never had any issues with smell), and water spigot.
-they seem to be proactive about making sure that everyone has food put away and is safely storing items that could attract bears
-had plenty of room to park our two vehicles
-never had issues with the bathrooms being too crowded
Negatives:
-informed on arrival that the showers were unavailable. We ended up spending more money on token showers at other places than we did for the entire cost of the campsite. Apparently, the showers have been out for a while, and we were never given a timeframe on when they would reopen.
-there were 5 large ant hills covering the entire tent area. We killed about 70 ants in our tent during our week stay.
-the bathrooms were definitely not dirty, but they weren't cleaned during our week stay. Sometimes, they were out of soap and toilet paper but they seemed to get replaced within a day. Luckily, we had extra toilet paper and left it in the bathrooms for other people to use. The mirrors/floor/sink were never cleaned.
-you are not allowed to hang anything from the trees so we had to get creative and hang a line between our cars in order to dry stuff like towels. I would recommend bringing an easy up to put over your picnic table for shade/cover from rain because we had to take down our rain fly for this reason. I wish we would have brought our easy up and mosquito netting to hang from it.
-lots of mosquitos so bring bug spray

I was very disappointed with St. Marys campground. Contrary to the photos, there are hardly any trees in the campground. Because there are no trees there is no protection from the wind. It was so windy that our tent tried to blow away and we had to sleep in the car. There are also no showers available, contrary to the website.

I loved staying at St Mary campground. Clean and tidy campground and facilities. My site had some privacy with trees though not all spots due. 4/5 stars since the showers were not available. Excellent spot for getting out early to hikes, especially up to Logan’s Pass.

St. Mary had beautiful mountain views. Sites are sheltered by lower bushes (not a lot of tall trees) so the wind could be a bit tricky. Overall, the campground was clean, well-maintained, and we all enjoyed the ranger programs!
