Gallo Campground

I missed the first night due to rain and impassible roads (thank you to the rangers for the road warning) but arrived early on day 2 and set up camp quickly to enjoy the full day at the park. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The rest rooms were clean and accessible. We had a bit of rain and my tent pad drained well. The campground was full and quiet. The campsites are close to the visitor's center and the loop road but far enough away to feel like you had your own piece of the petroglyphs and rock formations.

We had a wonderful visit to to Chaco and stayed at the Gallo campground. We spent 5 days there and did a lot of hikes and learned about the ancient Puebloan communities that were there over a thousand years ago.

It's a great little campground, but the sites are very open and exposed. The camp hosts were great as well as everyone at the Visitor Center.

absolutely amazing place. don’t miss the hike out to the supernova pictograph. camp sites wonderfully maintained, water for our little travel trailer was available at the dump station and we were lucky the road which can be bad was just graded and great. visitor center was really great, rangers knowledgeable and nice, and bathrooms really nice with flush toilets.

Well, it automatically gets points just for being in Chaco Canyon and two minute's drive from the visitor center. One of the most amazing places to visit imaginable, if you like breathtaking landscapes and Ancestral Pueblo dwellings. The Great Houses are a marvel to behold. This campground makes you feel like you live there, if only for a day or few. There is a small house ruin in the cliff alcove that is part of Gallo Campground, and the Wijiji trail begins from the entrance to the campground. Many pluses. It may be desolate, but they provide ample bathroom with running water for all campers, as well as a fire pit, parking place, and a square sandbox type thingy of packed sand perfect for pitching tent. Stargazing is great, although you may see some strange lights up there....it is New Mexico after all. Come commune with the ancient Chacoan spirits at Gallo Campground, it is an experience!

Clean and quiet. The camp host was helpful.

Nice campground. Bathrooms are tidy, so hosts obviously care about what they're doing. It's difficult to get to and can be very windy, so plan your trip accordingly.

It was cold and snowy this Easter weekend but it just made it more memorable. Beautiful clean sites along the canyon walls are such a great vibe. Wonderful spot.
