What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

We hiked all the hikes in the Chaco guide. All were wonderful. Campground is simple yet comfortable with tie downs for tents. Very clean restrooms too. This is an awesome and inspiring place.

Camp site #16 is a fantastic location ,, from here you can see the sun rise and sun set. We found the camp grounds very well maintained and clean.
Beware of the roads leading into the park !! give yourself extra time to travel the very rough road..
This area is a must see !!!!!!

If you allow trailers in tent sites, then allow trailers to be in the site, rather than on the road. The #10 site I was in could easily converted so that a trailer could back on to a pad.

Camping at Gallo is a must to see Chaco Canyon NHP, as it is a several hour drive from anywhere. Water is available, but bring plenty of containers. There is no shade, so I recommend bringing a tent or awning. The desert climate can bring very cold nights after rather warm days, so bring clothing for warm weather and cold nights. The days tend to be breezy.
A very quiet and mellow campground, usually full and requires reservations. Absolutely no cell service, but I did get email on my phone after walking through the visitor center. It was actually nice to be away from news and phone calls for four days!
Very friendly park employees and volunteers have several tours and programs. Overall, a great campground at a very interesting park.

The campground was well maintained, including the limited facilities, and the rangers were great. Wonderful views of the mesa. Great hiking trails and really a special place and the dark, star filled skies were great (other than the light pollution from some vehicle campers.)
In terms of camping, it would be a better place to camp if there was some separation from the RVs/car campers so that the tent campers were not surrounded by vehicles, some of which kept lights on at night and ran their vehicles for short periods of time during the night.

Extremely beautiful setting for this little campground close to rock walls and (IIRC) with view of Fajada Butte. I would happily stay there again primarily to see more of the Park's cultural sites and trails. Of course, by necessity, the campground has no shade tress and so little privacy.

The park was great, the campground was nice and well maintained. The visitor center was great with a helpful staff.
The road was terrible! Our camper was damaged despite driving as slow as possible. I would not recommend taking a camper there.
Thank you
