What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

I enjoyed the friendly hosts and the fact they checked on everyone. Sites were nice and restrooms clean. Road in is rough!

We were never able to make it to this campground. Fifteen miles from the campground the paved road turned into a washboard gravel road that was impassible in an RV. We also met other visitors in cars and vans that turned around as well. Our reservation was wasted. The condition of this road is BAD, and should be fixed.

A gorgeous, quiet campground. We were lucky to have a clear sky to experience the “dark sky”—so many stars! Several neat trails from the campground. If you’re making the trek to Chaco Canyon, staying here is a must!

Great campgound that was very clean. It almost made you forget how remote it was with clean flushing toilets and drinking water. There is potable water at the campground along with a dumping station. There is one station at the campground, not at each site. We loved staying here and then biking to the Chaco ruins. The road to get here is as terrible as they say with about 20 miles of washboards. That is why it was great to camp here that you didn't have to take the road twice in 1 day. The road going south was better for our camper leaving. Very friendly and helpful camp hosts too.

Good to camp out near the historical sites we wanted to visit. But, although there was a restriction on generators, there was no restriction on noise emanating from fancy RVs that ran heaters on and off during the night. That noise destroyed the otherwise silence of the remote place.
We were also accosted by the smoke from campfires nearby. Some people seemingly are unable to enjoy the out-of-doors without a campfire polluting the otherwise clean air.
The restrooms were clean, and the campground otherwise well-managed.

60% of the campsites were vacant, but we were only able to reserve 1 night, fortunately we were able to camp with some friends there,I think that if someone reserves a site and doesn’t show up be 9pm that site should become available to rebook.

How wonderful to be able to camp within site of the Anasazi ruins—not 50 yards from our tent! We were pleased by the regular but unobtrusive patrols of the camp by the park rangers. The campsites were ample, the fire pits welcome, and the picnic tables a luxury that these two older backpackers were not accustomed to! The flush toilet was also nice. Our one complaint is that noisy generators should be banned. The solemnity and quiet of the place was ruined by that noise, which came on intermittently all night long. The park is magnificent and the campground provides excellent access to a national treasure.
