What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

Nice little campground. Wonderful setting with the archeological sites right next to the campsites. Very helpful rangers in the visitor's center. This was our third time visiting and we enjoyed it again. I just wish that the road in to the park was better. For our van, it was a 10 mph road for 16 miles due to the terrible washboard. Even with the slow drive in, the park is well worth it...the hiking and archeological sites are wonderful!

We camped for 3 nights in an RV space and found some of the spaces, including ours, to be very close together. We could hear conversations, generators, propane tanks, and other sounds from the neighboring sites. Nice campground otherwise, clean facilities, great campground hosts and access to water and a dump station. Our only complaint was the close proximity of the RV spaces, it would be nice if these were separated just a bit more.

The road to get to Gallo campground was gravel and so heavily washboarded that I abandoned my trip. The vibrations had everything inside my vehicle rattling and shaking terribly.

The visit was enjoyable and educational. We just happened to be there in a bad weather event. Also, I would not recommend bringing any type RV in as the roads are very washboard. It is an excellent national park, clean and well maintained.

Recreation .gov did a great job with setting this up. The campground was disappointing with small campsites so close to others and no sun protection.

The road there was very rough, but the campground was fine.

Beautiful location. If you're driving in from the north, plan on an HOUR to drive the 21 miles as you'll be on intense washboard and driving 11 - 14 mph. I've gotten a punctured tire on the road before & my teenager got a flat, so beware. Totally worth going. Astonishing place.

While the 13 miles of seriously washboarded road took us an hour to travel, it was well worth the effort. We loved Chaco Canyon. The campground was perfect for our needs. The hike right out of the campground was fun as well. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful. I do recommend getting a reservation. We were there in a not so busy time, so there were a couple of campsites available for those brave enough to risk it. There are only 42 sites, so it's safer to reserve a campsite. There was a dump station and fresh water for our camper, but we mostly dry camp, so it was an added perk to have those.
