What Guests Are Saying
Gallo Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained camping experience in Chaco Canyon, with stunning views, amazing night skies, and friendly campground hosts who provide valuable information and assistance. The campground is clean and organized, featuring level sites and access to hiking trails and ancient ruins. However, visitors should be aware of the rough access roads, limited privacy between campsites, and occasional issues with water and restroom facilities.

Excellent on site hosts - they made our visit so much easier as they were both very helpful! The campground is lovely and I wish we could have stayed longer.

Sure ranger was helpful and nice, the bathrooms were clean, there was free fresh water, and the tent plots were raised off the ground. The night sky was absolutely spectacular (it’s a dark sky park) and 3 minute drive to the visitor center which is also the beginning of the Chaco Canyon drive. There are also a few hikes straight from the the camp. Pro tip: Take your telescope!

Campground host was helpful, friendly, flexible, informative, and nice! Facilities awesome for a desert: clean and I thought the water dispensers we're a great advancement.

Chaco is a fantastic place to visit. We did several hikes including Penasco Blanco, Wijiji, and Tsin Kletzin trails. All were beautiful and we highly recommend them all.

Be prepared for windy conditions. We experienced gusts up to 45 mph. Thankfully, we had enough tent stakes and tie down rope to weather some windy days. There was potable water at the campsite near the bathroom, as well as at the visitor center, which helped with staying hydrated. Bathrooms were nice at the camp, flushing toilets and a place to wash up. No showers! Campground was clean and well staffed.

Such a magical area with sunsets and dark night skies that only the remote desert can offer.

Numerous sites were posted as 'Reseved' yet no one showed up. I've seen this many times. Your reservation system continues to do a very poor job of informing local staff about cancelations and opening up no-show campsites.
This is also a disservice to NPS because sites go unused, but the reservation concession nevertheless receives its nonrefundable fees.

Got incorrect info from rangers about visiting hours for the ruins, gates locked early. Also, too windy and sand-blown to camp the night. Went home early. RV camping ok; tents impossible.
