What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Took my gf here for her very first experience in a real campground, she was so giddy and loved it. We had elk come right up to our camp spot and after visiting all the sights, we had a hard time leaving. She’s pretty sensitive to noise when trying to sleep especially in a tent, but said it was the best nights sleep she’s had in a long time getting to listen to the river.

Awesome campground. Close to several trails and horseback riding facility. Bathrooms were clean and there was a dish wash station which was a great touch. Campsites were a good size with good distance between your neighbors. Even saw some elk on our last day!

Smokemont is an excellent campground very close to the Cherokee side of the Smokies. Very well maintained, quiet, and each site has ample space. On the morning we left, a group of seven elk wandered into the site and decided to stroll around, which was absolutely magical.

A beautiful primitive campground with easy access to SMNP visitor center and the town of Cherokee.

Close to the river, and bathroom. Great location in quieter side of park. A little close to other campsites and does lack a little privacy. But the proximity to the river makes up for it.

It's a nice campground but there was no showers and no water from the drinking fountains. There was a dish washing sink though.

Noisy campers are always a struggle with how busy it always is, but I had a thoroughly great time. Bathrooms at the campgrounds were great. Plots were level and clean. I even had cell service most of the time. Not too far from a lot of the good hiking spots, and not too far from some great food in Bryson City. The fishing was phenomenal as well. You just gotta know where to look.
