What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Great area to camp! Plenty of hiking trails right by the camp sites. Very well kept and maintained area. The park ranger was very knowledgeable about the area and was able to give us plenty of stuff to do for the weekend.

Smokemont is a wonderful campground. Great sites, great bathroom facilities, and great access to wonderful trailheads in the campground. The rangers are always helpful and informative.

Wonderful campground! Woke up to 12 elk across from our site!

The campsites are large and level, and the restroom is really close by. However, during the time of year I visited (end of March), there isn't anyone at check-in and I had to deal with a site squatter. That really put a damper on my experience.

This campground was very clean. The space between sites was very nice. Nice access to clean restrooms. No showers. It was only a few minutes away from the Mingus Mill, Mountain Farm Museum and a NP Visitor center.

We stayed during off-season (only a small portion of the campground was open). The campground was nice, but the restrooms didn't have any soap and the dishwashing station was clogged. Just a heads up that if you're visiting while it's off-season to plan accordingly. I'm assuming due to it being off-season there just wasn't enough staff to keep up with everything. Otherwise, it's a beautiful campground so close to the creek you can hear it while you sleep.

Well kept sites, easy in and out, clean bathroom, close to several trailheads in GSMNP, quiet at night. All good. Buy local firewood for use in fire rings as blowdowns are in short supply.

This campground is fantastic. I have been there twice in the last month and both times it was quite and clean. Its just a short drive to most of the iconic hiking spots so it makes it a perfect recovery location. I will be back again.
