What Guests Are Saying
Smokemont Campground offers a clean and tranquil setting with ample space, a nearby stream, and access to numerous hiking trails. Many visitors appreciate the wildlife, including elk sightings, and the helpful staff. While some amenities like showers are lacking, the overall experience is positive, with a focus on nature and a peaceful atmosphere. However, campsite proximity and occasional noise from fellow campers can be drawbacks.

Great Smoky Mountains are phenomenal! Incredible hiking, gorgeous vistas, wildlife abounds. Campgrounds were great. Don’t sleep on the Cherokee Indian Museum in Cherokee, NC!

Visited last in late Feb. 26', first time 25 years ago. And other than tasteful upgrades, the park appears the exact same. A great camping spot in one of the best national parks of America.

Beautiful location. We loved being next to the creek and trails. Elk wandered through. We would have liked to stay there longer.
Downside was a group of 12 college age campers in a regular camping spot adjacent to ours (with max capacity of 6). They were up and active well past midnight and up early, and kept everyone awake around them. I love seeing young people out in the parks, camping and hiking, and was disappointed there were apparently no camp hosts or rangers to maintain campground expectations for quiet hours and capacity.

Great to visit in off season. Only a third of the campground is open. Being at oow elevation it is much cooler to visit in the winter. Creek is great for little kids

I loved this campground! The short 0.75 mile nature trail was beautiful. Highly recommend stargazing at night and catching every sunrise you can (ideally on a hike- watching the sunrise with a mountain view is unbeatable).

Lovely campsite. This specific one was close to the bathroom, so prepare to have the occasional light shining into your setup.
