Overall the visit was good. I do not like nor do I think the NPS should be taxing my truck. The ORV fee is nothing but an extra tax that the NPS should not be charging. It does nothing but put money in the coffers and offers nothing to the consumer. If there was anything gained such as better roads or maintaining the road the tax may be understandable. In some cases the beach could remain open around turtle nest instead of closing miles of beach and making it unavailable to fishermen. In my last visit about 18 of 24 miles of beach was closed.

Another fantastic trip to Cape Lookout! We stayed at the Great Island Cabins and ventured south to the lighthouse during our stay. Such beautiful sights and relative isolation make this our go-to destination for fun in the sun!

7th visit. Cabins can be excellent depending on location and which one. This trip: 12 has a great view and everything worked well. 20 has no view, malfunctioning water heater and most annoyingly ANTS which invade all supplies if you’re not equipped with insecticide, but we were.
Staff are very laid back, easy to engage, and non intrusive which is very important and appreciated!! We had a great experience 👍

Its always a fun trip. The island is beautiful and the volunteer staff is helpful and nice. The Davis Shore ferry service is the best. The crew on the boat are helpful and informative. They are willing to adjust schedules and bring things over when requested. The cabins are in better shape and showers and ovens seem to work better.

We love visiting Cape Lookout. Each time we come we plan and pack better and we will do even better the next visit.
The only issue we had on this past visit that I feel you should know about was the roach issue. We have never had this issue before. I understand that we are on sand, near water and in the South etc but just wanted to share that they were everywhere. In the evenings they would actually run across bedding and drop from the ceilings on us while we were sleeping. We’ve visited several times and have never experienced this before.
Like I said we just love it there and this doesn’t stop us from coming back but thought we should let you know.
Thank you.
