What Guests Are Saying
Canebrake Horse Camp is praised for its cleanliness, polite camp host, and well-maintained campsites, making it a favorite for horse campers. Many enjoy the central location to trails and appreciate the quiet atmosphere. However, there are concerns about non-horse campers occupying sites, declining maintenance, and the need for more attentive camp hosting. Overall, it remains a beloved spot for equestrian camping despite some areas needing improvement.

Canebreak is well set up for camping with horses. Most sites have some shade, good high line poles, close to water for horse spigots and bathhouses. The riding arena is nice with a sand surface. A beautiful horse camp in the Uwharrie Forest.

Love the campground and usually no issues. Lots of beautiful horses while there this time. However there were a few campers that let their dogs roam the campground off leash without supervision. The dogs were even fighting with each other and the owners would just continue to yell. Few of them kept coming in to our sites. One actually growled at us when it came in to our site

Great place to camp. The only problem we found were that some of the poles to tie horses had been pulled out of ground.
If they could repair the poles and mow around some of the sites it would be better

We stayed at site 10 and the amenities were close by. Relatively quiet area as most horse people are. The only issue we had were some campers from the OHV trails staying in Canebrake as opposed to staying in another area, freeing up some sites for other horse people since we have a very limited number of sites for horses.

First time here. Decent size campsites, some with trail access. Wheelbarrows provided for cleanup. Not all sites have water access sadly. Flushing toilet restroom has toilet paper dispenser out of reach from toilet, so plan ahead. Facilities not the cleanest but at least you have them. Leash law not enforced. Camp invaded more than once by dogs. Cantering horses in camp in spite of posted signs. Mostly quiet at night.

The bathrooms at the entrance were horrible, no one is cleaning them. We’ve come to this camp several times and have never had this problem before. Hopefully this was a fluke and will not be a problem from here on out.

Throughout the year the Uwharrie National Forest performs prescribed burns. Some of these burns will be next to and around this recreation facility and may cause smokey conditions during the actual burning and for the days following the burns. Sometimes we do not make a decision until the very morning that we will be able to do the burn due to weather and staffing. If you have questions about the prescribed burning possibility please call the Uwharrie National Forest Ranger District office at 910-576-6391 for updated information. |
