What Guests Are Saying
Canebrake Horse Camp is praised for its cleanliness, polite camp host, and well-maintained campsites, making it a favorite for horse campers. Many enjoy the central location to trails and appreciate the quiet atmosphere. However, there are concerns about non-horse campers occupying sites, declining maintenance, and the need for more attentive camp hosting. Overall, it remains a beloved spot for equestrian camping despite some areas needing improvement.

Canebrake Horse Camp is a beautiful place to stay. Large wooded sites that are level with a tent pad, huge picnic table and fire ring on each. Lots of trails to hike - but make room for those on horseback! Only drawback we found was that there wasn't fishing on site. We had to go elsewhere in Uwharrie National Forest to fish. But it was worth it because my grandson caught a large and tasty bass! We will definitely be back!

The River Trail is beautiful. Big Rocks is a good destination ride with your horses.

Wheelbarrows were broken. No camp host to enforce reservations. Someone took someone else’s site and no one there to work it out. I dread when ATVs are welcomed there. Horses and ATVs do not mix well. A true recipe for a disaster and a law suit.

Should be able to stay on site when you pull in and it’s not reserved. Someone can go on line and you have to leave. Host should let you know it’s occupied for however days paid for.

Throughout the year the Uwharrie National Forest performs prescribed burns. Some of these burns will be next to and around this recreation facility and may cause smokey conditions during the actual burning and for the days following the burns. Sometimes we do not make a decision until the very morning that we will be able to do the burn due to weather and staffing. If you have questions about the prescribed burning possibility please call the Uwharrie National Forest Ranger District office at 910-576-6391 for updated information. |
