Canebrake camps is our favorite place to go for Uwharrie. We like the amazing shower facilities, power hookups, and large parking areas for our trailers. I really appreciate the ranger staff keeping an eye on things as well by visiting a few times a day. Its very family friendly for camping and this is the fourth time I have visited. Please keep up the good work!

Nice large shady sites. Kids loved seeing the horses riding around. Bathhouses are nice and clean. Fishing close by.

Our reserved site was not reseved it was marked open and had been taken. We had to park in another site which was not our first choose and was in the full sun most of the day. Never saw a host or ranger the whole weekend. We where more or less on our own. This is the second time our reseved site was taken in Canebrake. Why make resevations if your camp site is not going to be held.
Also the old camp site, locals call the heathen site had not been mowed and looked like an unkempt field . No one wants to camp in a snake whole. The trails are great. But the host and rangers need to get their act together.

Trails could be better marked and were not designed properly with switchbacks to avoid rutting runoff. But still enjoyed!
Campground had many grassy areas( which needed mowing) but electric paddocks were not allowed on grassy areas but instead had to be set up in hard gravelled area of highline posts in full sun. Trailer sites advertised as full shade were not full shade. Manuverability to back in to site was tight and a challenge.
Women's restroom was out of order which was an inconvenience.
Horse washing area was nice. Manure puts were convenient.
Disappointed that hoses could not be connected at all for horse water... Other areas like Whetstone allow you to connect temporarily to fill buckets then must be disconnected. So no hose availability was an inconvenience.
Host campsite even when not occupied was a junky , messy looking area... Not like at other campgrounds.
Not sure why some horse camp areas cannot be as other areas designated for regular rv camping.
Wish more could be like South Mountain State Park in NC.
We will visit Canebrake again for the trail mileage though but the camp area not high on the list.

A most beautiful HORSE campground with shady sites. The only drawback is not having dedicated water hookup but doable with on board water.
