What Guests Are Saying
Canebrake Horse Camp is praised for its cleanliness, polite camp host, and well-maintained campsites, making it a favorite for horse campers. Many enjoy the central location to trails and appreciate the quiet atmosphere. However, there are concerns about non-horse campers occupying sites, declining maintenance, and the need for more attentive camp hosting. Overall, it remains a beloved spot for equestrian camping despite some areas needing improvement.

The campsite was beautiful, and everything worked out well. Plenty of room for my 34' Fifth wheel. THe only problem I had was in trying to get the trailer up to the dump station. It is definitely NOT a pull-through. I had to pull in and then back out to get lined up for the exit gate.
Other than that, it was a great, quiet stay.

Excellent trip. Weather was great. My only issue is there seems to be more "tent" campers in Canebrake HORSE camp. Folks traveling with horses don't have as many options as those camping in tents. Should be limited to horse/trailer campers.

Camp & management is great but why are ther campers without horses in a horse camp? That leaves fewer spots for us unless you’re going to allow us to stay at other campgrounds with our horses!!!!!!

I love camping here but there were a lot of non-horse campers in the campground.
Other than the chaos by the kids being unsupervised, I love it there! It is a great horse camp and finding a good horse camp is hard in NC.

I like Canebrake and have camped there over the years and ENJOYED knowing that the camp HOST was ALWAYS there to help out if needed. HOWEVER, on my last trip last week NO CAMP HOST. At night only two campers on entire campground. THIS IS NOT GOOD with todays climate. I hope you'll consider getting another FULL TIME camp host.

The hosts Joe and his wife (I can't remember her name, but she is very sweet) were extremely kind and friendly. He introduced himself to us right away and asked if we needed anything to just let them know. We even got to share a Smore with them. Although we don't have horses and camped in a tent (in July) and it was SUPER HOT during the day, the campground was peaceful and everyone was nice; we got invited to dinner and another camper gave our kids toys and helped with a bike wipe-out. Showers are hot water only, which was tough and you have to keep pressing the button for it to stay on, but it was okay. Overall nice area, but no cell service with AT & T until we got down the road a ways.

My first trip ever to Cane Break horse camp. The couple in charge of camp were very helpful and nice. It is a nice place, was very clean and enjoyed riding the trails. I will definitely go back.

Throughout the year the Uwharrie National Forest performs prescribed burns. Some of these burns will be next to and around this recreation facility and may cause smokey conditions during the actual burning and for the days following the burns. Sometimes we do not make a decision until the very morning that we will be able to do the burn due to weather and staffing. If you have questions about the prescribed burning possibility please call the Uwharrie National Forest Ranger District office at 910-576-6391 for updated information. |
