What Guests Are Saying
Canebrake Horse Camp is praised for its cleanliness, polite camp host, and well-maintained campsites, making it a favorite for horse campers. Many enjoy the central location to trails and appreciate the quiet atmosphere. However, there are concerns about non-horse campers occupying sites, declining maintenance, and the need for more attentive camp hosting. Overall, it remains a beloved spot for equestrian camping despite some areas needing improvement.

We love it here! We come down from PA in February with our 2 horses and 2 dogs. Sites are set up good for tie out or electric pens. Trails are well marked in most areas and impressed with the care of the trails from year to year. The fact that we can take the dogs on trail is a big plus. This is a great winter escape and quite place to camp.

Even though the temperature outside was in the 20's at night and the low 40's in the daytime, the bathrooms were warm with hot shower water. Site was clean. Trails had a lot of hurricane damage but we could navigate them. I like the pads at the campsite for the horses to stand on so they were not in the mud.

Very clean sites with fire rings and very accessible to trails. Most campsites are easy to park and very easy to level your trailer. Some you need leveling blocks. Remember to bring a rope since they do not have stalls.

My days were spent horseback riding all day, and then coming back to camp for a wonderful meal and to sit around the campfire with friends - old friends and new friends.

Throughout the year the Uwharrie National Forest performs prescribed burns. Some of these burns will be next to and around this recreation facility and may cause smokey conditions during the actual burning and for the days following the burns. Sometimes we do not make a decision until the very morning that we will be able to do the burn due to weather and staffing. If you have questions about the prescribed burning possibility please call the Uwharrie National Forest Ranger District office at 910-576-6391 for updated information. |
