Super beautiful place. Love the site, been camping here since I was a kid. Only complaint is all the yellow jackets. I don’t think I have seen that many bees in one place before. Small price to pay though. Walton lake will always have a special place in my heart.

The lake is always beautiful and clear. There were a lot of frogs on the shore, but that happens this time of year.

Spot 23 is a perfect distance from the lake but has no direct access, you have to go to either side both of which were “claimed” by the people of the campsite nearest it by use of their paddle boards being on the bank blocking access. This has more to do with entitlement than anything I believe. The lake was nice and quiet, seeing as how it rained half the time there I’d expect nothing less. Met Tony (the camp host) on the first night and only saw him once during 4 days. Bathrooms are vault toilets which were almost completely filled but were fairly clean. No lights in them though unlike a previous review mentioned. When it says FCFS on the reservation area of the website that isn’t entirely accurate as someone had reserved our spot that was listed as FCFS so unsure how that happened. I’d go back since there are very minimal amounts of bugs and very cute ducks.

Great spot! We stayed at the small group site. It was very private and very few mosquitoes. Beautiful lake and close walk to lake access/ day use area. The only downside is the pit toilet is a little far and shared with the day use area. So campers have to share/ wait for use. Might not be ideal for young kids and you may want another plan for a toilet at your site. We have a pee bucket for middle of the night at our camp site for the girls. Even for a holiday week, this destination is far enough away that it stayed quiet and not crowded. There are some cool sights you can drive or hike to with abandoned mines. Worth checking them out if you are camping here.

Peaceful and lovely setting. Road is paved entire way to the campground. Sites are well kept. Our site was large enough for our 38’ class A and small toad.

Went to check in to our campsite and there was a women in our reserved spot who refused to move. She said the camp host told her she could move into it for a few days. The camp host was nowhere to be found to resolve the issue. We were told they had gone to town to shop for the day. Waited 2 hours for then to come back!! Finally gave up and drove 100 miles back home. Pathetic!!!!!

Items to note:
Only 1 working water spigot which required driving around the lake to get to. So bring plenty of your own water.
Snakes! While amazing creatures in the water it made us hesitant to swim :-)

Our campsite had a beautiful view of the lake. However the picnic table had some kind of grease or lighter fluid all over it. It needed to be cleaned. There are also A LOT of day permit people. We got there on a Sunday and it was packed. Monday and Tuesday it was a lot quieter. Beautiful lake. Fishing was ok. Kayaking and paddle boarding was a lot of fun. Camp sites are close together.
