Tahkenitch Campground provides a peaceful and private camping experience, set amidst beautiful old-growth Sitka spruce with ample shade and birdlife. The campground is clean, with flush toilets and running water, and offers convenient access to hiking trails and nearby stores. However, the noise from Highway 101 can be disruptive, and some visitors noted issues with overflowing trash and a lack of camp hosts for maintenance.

Camp sites are small, on top of each other, and right next to the road. Toilets were broken when we were there - but that could happen anywhere. It was smaller than some of the nearby large campgrounds which is nice. Beautiful area with access to lakes, dunes, hikes, etc.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quiet and peace we found here! The camp host kept their distance (we’ve had hosts invade our privacy many times) The bathrooms were clean, and the activities near by were great. Kid and Dog friendly. The hike to the beach was rough with the little ones but we made it!!
The one and only thing we were a bit unhappy with was the proximity between campsites, and how they all seem to be attached to one another. We had site #30, and once we used our tent to block the path to #29 it was private enough for our little family.

We have camped at this campground for over 40 years. Our only complaint is the new (10 years old now) restrooms. They are always having problems with them. At times they only have "blue rooms" outside the restrooms to use. Thankfully there is a pit toilet to use. If the Forest Service could come in and totally remodel the system it would be a great improvement. Next year we are going to Carter Lake and break our long tradition at Tahkenitch.
