Dutchman

We took a church youth group of girls and felt very safe at this campground - the hosts were very helpful in our planning and suggestions for hikes and other activities. We drove an hour to tour Jewel Caves and it was very cool! We loved spending an afternoon on Deerfield Lake. I'd recommend this campsite to anyone looking for an amazing time in the Black Hills!

Great camp site, excellent location and peaceful surroundings. Close and easy access to the reservoir and several very nice picnic areas. Plenty of hiking access at the campground and nearby. 15 minute drive to downtown Hill City.

the site states we can have 2 vehicles per site when registering. that is not the case. we were told that we could only have one vehicle on the same site and that would be the one that pulled the camper. all other vehicles would cost me an additional $5 a day. now i reserved 5 sites for our yearly family get together that i have been doing for the past 20 years and every site that i put an extra vehicle on cost me extra money according to the host who explained that the new concessionaires' informed them during training to charge for the second vehicle. so the on line registration site is misleading. yes we did pay for extra vehicles before, however that was over the 2 vehicle limit for the site upon registration.

along with getting here for the start of the season those bathrooms reeked of smell. i did notice that it took a week for the garbage truck to come pick up the overflowing garbage container here. so we got here on the Wednesday before memorial day and i did not see the garbage truck till the following Friday afterwards. in the past the truck would show up shortly after the holiday.

the new company who took over running the campgrounds is surely not starting off in a positive operation.

Very nice and private campground. Usually pretty quiet except for generators running from time to time.

It was an absolute and perfect camping trip. The sites are so well maintained and so nice to have all that space. The tourists were gone (we are local). The weather was epic and the camp ground host was the BEST ever. We learned so much about the campground that we have been going to for years, especially when our kids were little. She was so knowledgeable and helpful.

With all the rain this past summer here, the scenery, grounds, lake, trails, wildlife were so plentiful. I have never gotten better photos of very unusual and beautiful plants and all God's creation up there. I hope and pray you don't plan to "modernize" this wonderful place. We go there to truly CAMP not glamp! and enjoy the beautiful Black Hills that is in our backyard, but quickly becoming way too commercialized and hard to find a pristine and untouched paradise like the forest up there. It's quite a precious refuge - away from the noise and hustle and bustle of life.

Love camping in the Black Hills. I usually split my time between hiking and fishing. The campsites at Dutchman are scenic and well kept. Always a much needed and relaxing time spent there.
