Dutchman

We arrived late for our campsite. I tried to call to see if a late check in was fine but the line kept ringing and it seemed like it was outsourced to California judging by the area code. In the dark, it was poorly marked dirt gravel road that lead deep into the forest before we finally reached the guard station. We tried to find our campsite with no map because none was given in the email. When we finally reached our campsite, it was covered in pinecones. There was no way we could have pitched our tent there without messing up the floor of it and our feet. So we left the campsite and just drove the night till we reached our next destination.

A nice out of the way campground. We brought floaties and used in lake everyday. Great tucked away spot.

Our camp spot might have been the worst in the campground. Almost no trees, there were fresh stumps turned over all around, and the spot wasn’t very level. There was also about 2 mi of washboard dirt road to get to the campground. To be fair, there were many nice looking camp spots. Ours wasn’t one of them.

Nice campground about a half mile from boat docks at Deerfield Lake. Campground host greeted us within five minutes of arrival and was very kind and helped us obtain some firewood. It was a nice quiet campground on weeknight and then got pretty busy on the very hot weekend, which is very understandable

Nice campground. However the lake was very low and we had to fish at another lake. Many trees blown over from a severe wind storm that needed to be cleaned up. Clean bathrooms and nice campground hosts.

Probably the best site at Dutchman, which is a great campsite overall.

The website is unclear. The outhouse was half a campground away.

Nice campground, we like it and will camp there again many times. The quality of the sites varies a lot, so it’s worth doing some homework before you book. I don’t know what their budget looks like, but with a loader, some diesel, and a few days, you could make big improvements. They’ve clearly lost a lot of trees, so I’m guessing their focus is on recovery right now.

It’s quiet, pretty, and natural — exactly the kind of place we like to spend time. Fishing on Deerfield was OK; we probably could’ve done better if we knew the lake.

Wonderful quiet camp site

Great spot to enjoy the Black Hills. Nice hiking and biking trails. Fishing and swimming in the lake. The campsites are nice. Restrooms are clean.
