What Guests Are Saying
Sheridan Lake offers great tent and RV camping with spacious, shaded sites and a beautiful lakeside location, perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The clean facilities and friendly hosts enhance the overall experience, despite some concerns about limited infrastructure and cellular service. While some campers noted noise from generators and construction, many found the setting peaceful and enjoyable, making it a desirable spot for future visits.

Great space, friendly and savvy managers, and hosts.
Fun and clean.
Just wish they had recycling and composting.

Disappointed with site. Layout was backwards for a camper, fire pit and table should of been on either side of driveway. Driveway is in poor condition and honestly should be lowered and flattened. Tree stump next to fire pit I forgot about in the dark and ate dirt when tripping over it, after putting fire out.
A note for others, the streets are narrow and not much room for others coming in opposite direction. Maintain safe speed, and road has a few areas in back that are dirt and not level.
The overall experience though was okay. Staff was friendly, met camp host while setting up and he was nice. Typically nights were quite, and close enough to go visit Rushmore, crazy horse, and jewel cave.
No power, no dump though there is a dump station down the road for $10
No cell service even with weBoost

The sites here are good sized and well spaced out. There isn't privacy between sites, but there is space. The bathrooms were a bit rough with tons of flies, but it is nature. The lake nearby is nice, but getting to it in an accessible beach spot isn't all that easy. All in all, a great campground for exploring Mount Rushmore.

I sure did love Sheridan Lake. While planning our big trek to South Dakota from Southern California I sure had a lot of choices of campgrounds to stay in within the Black Hills. Our family loved this campground! Big open lots, close walk to the water, hiking trails within the grounds. We were able to let our dog off leash by the water which made our days even more fun! Rented a boat at the marina which I highly recommend if you don't have a boat of your own. In July the water was nice enough to swim in! Visited the Black Hills Caverns one day which our children loved! Also visited Deadwood for entertainment, Spearfish Canyon for Hiking, Rushmore and Crazy Horse for viewing and Custer State Park for the beauty. All within an hour drive from Sheridan Lake. If the Black Hills is ever in our travel plans again, Sheridan Lake will definitely be our home base again!

Very scenic and pleasant camp site, would definitely stay again! Only complaint was the caretakers of the campground were not too friendly and it looks like the upkeep of the camp sites wasn’t being done. We encountered trash and a fire pit that appeared not to be cleared out recently.

Good location and nice site however t
even though there is water on site all handles have been removed and you have to drive 3 miles down the highway to get it and to dump. We paid $5 for water and $15 to dump. The vault toilets were fly infested and didn't appear to have been cleaned.

Very independent/do it yourself campsite. If you are an "out of towner" have some cash on hand to purchase firewood. There is no attendant so you will need to find your own camping site and all payments for sites and wood are made by envelope in a box. There is also no WiFi/cell service in the campground or on the lake. BUT - the sites and bathrooms are clean (vault). The lake and views are stunning. The campsites are spacious. We would totally camp there again - we just we're quite prepared for being off the grid.

Sites are really well spaced. Most have full shade. Sites are beautiful. There’s a lake with a beach. I was only overnight. 10 minutes from Rushmore. Hill City has a train museum. And Deadwood/Lead and Crazy Horse are not far.

Nice campsite! We were staying closer to the entrance so had concerns about road noise, but it wasn't a problem at all. Still felt like we were out in the woods :)
